Single exhaust Superhawk

1998 vtr1000f
39,000 mi
mostly stock, replaced one cct.
sharkskin front fairing
custom jetglow bluetone matterhorn white aircraft paintjob.
michelin pilot 3 front tire > 400 miles
michelin pilot 4 rear tire > 80 miles

I pulled my SH out of a scrap pile a few years back and over time I restored it to a respectable condition. However, it has a single exhaust ( very ugly) looks like a diesel tip. It is loud and I love the sound, its just horrible on appearance. With that being said, I haven't seen any Super Chickens with a single pipe. Is there a benefit to this or should I crack down and buy another 2 outflow system? It has stock jets and since it has a single exhaust I don't really know where to begin with jetting it. It runs great, it does pop and backfire though, i'm assuming the reason is that it is straight piped. I want to get a nice looking, good sounding slip on maybe, but i'm kinda new to the whole exhaust side of bikes. If anyone could shed some light on this, it would be most appreciated.

Temporarily did the same tho used half a stock muffler on the collector. It was ok, ran out off puff up top but incredible ecomomy...running twin straight thru's and jetted to suit. 15/43 has allowed me to enjoy it more

Welcome aboard. It's been discussed before at length if you search (and I mean this mostly because the information, especially the more technical side of things, is already there for you rather than have to wait around for people to reply again) but my 2 cents is if companies like Erion and Jardine couldn't make it work properly/better on their AMA Superbikes I don't know why most anyone else thinks they're going to. There's a pretty good reason Superhawks, RC51s, TL1000S and R's, Milles, etc, etc all came with dual exhausts. Yeah if it were my bike I'd find a decent stock header and a good pair of slip ons. If you go that route PM me I usually have a few things laying around or already for sale as I've sold a bunch of exhausts (and done a few part outs) on here over the years.
