Rejet and air filter.

Hi I work on my vtr's carb jetting right now (factory jet stage 1) and might as well i also want to replace oem air filter, but searching about K N air filter seems like that are alot of isues w/it. So what you recommend? Stick w/oem install new jet kit or should i go w/K N a/f? And what is base line? I believe someone member of this forum talk to VTR guru and not recommend to replace it w/aftermarket air filter Thanks Gents for helps and advices.

I think you could go for the K&N and be successful.

Go for 2.25 turns on the mixture screws
needles with the clip in the middle (3rd) notch
182r/180f mains (185r/182f if you're feeling frisky )

im running K&N with D&D slipons at about 3000ft elevation
jetting is 48 pilots 3 turns out (2.75 woulda been perfect but im to lazy to pull the carbs again for that.) with 190r/185f (i only had steps in 5) also if u r going to stay with the stock size 45 pilots you should get some non 'S" varients. they hav larger air holes and make the air and fuel mix better.

Yes on the carb sync, if for no other reason just to make sure it's still adjusted correctly.

I don't have jetting advise other than saying it's advantages might not be worth the trouble. have you researched what the hp gain would be? anyway I am curious about your location. I'm in Aurora. how far from bloomington is that? I don't see many other superhawks out this way.

I don't think they sell them anymore, mainly due to the hazardous material concerns of mercury. You can try Googling Twinmax. That's a very good unit I've used in the past, though I do not own one. Only works for twins though. They may have another one for IL4s, or you could just switch out tubes.

i am running a DJ kit with 48 slow jets. had to order them seperate.
for the choke piecies i aquired some brass ones out some mikuni carbs that fit in place of the plastic one. polaris uses them on the 400 scrambler cars. posibly others but no garuntees. if u hav a polaris dealer getting them should be easy. you will hav to drill a small part of the brass out.. very easy mod to get choke inserts that dont break anymore.

If your idle is not steady and/or your plugs get fouled at idle speeds then I recommend you go back to stock #45 pilots or get some #48s to try.

Guys...good evening,

I just purchased a set of Akrapovics.....full system, racing line. Would anyone happen to know what jets I need to purchase for this setup? I plan on purchasing a K&N air filter, unless I'm told I should go another route. Any ideas? Thanks.

I would try the carbs basic settings and start from there, then if any dead spots black smoke, carbon build up on plugs make the adjustments.

A few weeks ago I dropped in Two Bros. Slip On's and a stage one jet kit. I justed dumped a K & N in her this week, and it did wake her up a little more. Just put a few hundred miles on her tonight going to the Americade, and there was a little more there after the K&N. I'd recommend it....
