Spokes has the same mains (198F/200R) as I do. I can attest to the better fuel economy. You would think that the fuel economy would go to crap with this mod, but it got better for me as well.

Actual dyno numbers coming

Will be very interested in dyno results. Over here they are very expensive and not run by people I would trust.

I want the XWing now......

And a single big bore pipe......

Nice score. If you need a hand with anything, let me know man. Let's see some pictures of your progress when you start cutting up the lid.

Hey, are ya hittin' up the Slimey Crud Run this Sunday? I'll be the one rockin' a flat black Superhawk. If you are so inclined, you can take 'er for a spin if you like and see what a major difference the F.I.L. mod makes. This is only IF I recieve the correct clutch parts.

You show some people what a Firestorm can do? Fill us in man!

You got the carbs all dialed in now, right? What are your final settings?

Very tired and it was at times a very wet cold day. Struggled to get heat into the tyres. 6 guys went down. 1 right in front of me. He forgot that on a LH track the RH side of your tyre gets cold. When I say wet, parts of the track had flowing water across.

Bike is stunning. Very happy with it. As quick as anything in a straight line.

On the road the cruse is a smidge out but an adjustment of the screws will sort that out. It is the best it has ever run, by a long way.

I have another track day next week at my normal track. Looking forward to it now.

Current set up is, 48 Idles. 2mm and 2.5mm shims and 198/200 mains. Stock needles.

Yeah mine came from a wrecker and it had a new filter in it. Was completely clean and the box looked new.

Finished yet?

I was planning on the crud run...it'll be chilly...but, I think I'll tough it out.
At least the Pine Bluff meetup. I was thinking of taking the XX and put my for sale sign on it

I'll look for a flat black SH !

(back on track.....)
removed the lid from the donor airbox.
stock filter looks nice. pretty clean.

Here is the donor lid & donor K&N (from my XX)

Here is a pile of gunk that brushed out of my K&N - it was as thick as my finger, too

I used the recharge cleaner = viola! Clean. Drying it overnight...

Cheers,

Nothing has been touched inside the motor apart from MCCTs. My pipes are Yoshi RS3s. Stock needles but I do have DR Honda style intake stacks.

For the sake of ease, I will do it like yours.

Did you screw it down or anything? Just RTV?

My K&N was from a VTR filter and it just popped out. So I cut the hole to be the same size as the hole left in the old filter base is that makes sense. As I had it follow the radius of the lid it didnt fit perfectly but very close. The RTV was more to ensure no air leaks than to hold it all in place as I made it a very snug fit.

You will need to lift your tank 5 to 10mm.

Wonder if it would be worth running some flexible vacuum cleaner type hose from both air intakes in the fairing to the front of the tank. Maybe squish it between frame and tank.

Cool,

You're setup is essentially the same as mine as my airbox, filter and engine is stock with Micron Titanium high slip-on pipes the only powertrain mod.

I can move forward with my FIL mod and use your settings as a baseline and work from there.

Cheers,
Alex

I didn't see Crux at the Crud Run...but I talked to the guy from the shop that would do my dyno runs...i think I'll just drop it off with the new FIL lid and a list of jets & settings. Hand him some cash and wait to see what happens.
I oiled the K&N. Need to get cutting things up.

Worked late to get the bike ready to go, but in the end, I wasn't (health issues). Didn't feel like crashing today. Was almost perfect outside too! 60F degress and sunny. I LOVE this kind of weather. I'm still pissed I didn't go

Good luck with the F.I.L. mod!

No comparison. Snorkel mod didnt do much that I could tell. FIL mod is a different world. More power everywhere and much more settled. My idle is perfect. I would not go back. I will be modding my old airbox for bigger volume.

My jetting suit my bike in my country and the fuel we get here. May not suit your bike.

Doing some fine tuning. Decided to check the plugs at a low rpm condition. Was running at 2500rpm then left to idle for about 10 seconds.

Below is the plugs. Interesting that the front one is black and sooty and the rear is clean light brown. Fuels screws were set 2 out rear and 1.75 out front.

Thats a big difference. So have now set them at front 1.25 turns out and rear at 2.25 turns out. Will ride it to work tomorrow and see what it rides like but it looks like for my bike anyway I need to stagger my idle jetting. Maybe 48 rear and 45 front.

Before its brought up, no the tip of my front plug is not missing. It just matches the colour of the wood.

But in the morning I can pin it on the road leading into my work. So I will plug chop it so I can see whats happening under power.

Ive owned an injected bike, not a fan. One of the reasons i like my bike is because of the carbs. Unless he finds a ton of HP im not interested.

IMO, there may be a hp gain to be had via the larger diameter throttle bodies (ie. 54mm on SP-1 vs 48mm on VTR carbs)... An interesting project, but I doubt he'll be giving his kits away......

Power run plug chop. Pretty happy with that. Very close. Am thinking down a size on both mains. Was a short power run. Plug heat range looks good.

Track day yesterday and did a plug chop on the last lap of the day. Plugs look ok with the rear showing a little rich. Both showing good in the mid but still a little rich on idles.

Bike is making good power. I may change to 45s and match the mains next time I have the carbs off but I feel no need to to it urgently. Got other ideas I want to try.

I might insulate the outside of the airbox. I was quite warm when touched after a session. Want to tidy up inside the airbox. And pull the exhaust to clean up inside it and wrap it. etc etc

You mentioned going down a size on your mains. I know our bikes are different, and we live in different areas, however when I was one size lower on the mains (190F/195R), the engine was very lean, to the point of cutting out. I had my fingers crossed going to the 198F/200R, because they (JetsRus) don't make anything bigger.

I was thinking, since you track your bike a lot, you would be a good candidate for ram air with the F.I.L. mod. People have had great results going to ram air. However, if you were to install ram air, you would be out of luck, since you would need larger mains.

Does anyone know if there are mains available bigger than 200?

FIL Mod with ram air needs injection, would love to see that on the dyno
