Latest OCMD project: modded airbox lid
Can anybody with their snorkel or FIL mod make a onboard vid where i can hear those revs climb, i think mine is jetted good but i have no comparison
it doesnt stutter or fart in anyway.... no backfires either so its pretty good
my set up : stock main jets, 48 pilots, mixture screws 2,75 front, 3 turns rear, so its pretty lean already compared to others on here with snorkel or FIL mod but compared to mikstr its rich

You aren't ordering jets? You're actually drilling them with a drill bit?

My spare jets have a different thread pitch.

Mikstr is lean probably due to motor mods and HRC needles. Your setup is pretty much what I had with the snorkel mod. Mine will be different to Crux as im on different needles.
Just rode it after lifting the needles. Oh my god. What a noise. Power is immediate. Couldn't do a power run as it is gusting 120kph here. I overtook a car and she was trying to lift the front. Best it has ever run down low and mid.
I giggled like a girl.
Jets wont show until at least Wednesday.

Makes the bike completely different but so much better. If others knew what the difference was that this modification made, those that have the ability to do this modification, would be doing it right now.
What about this weekend? I even have an old K&N somewhere...
Mid range is stunning. Top end is flat and surging. But on stock mains. Picking up jets tomorrow.
Coming up the driveway the front wheel came up.
I cant wait for new mains....
also what do you mean by surging ? i am dutch so some terms i still dont know what the bike is doing when its surging ???,
for reference when i am at like 4000 rpm cruise in 6th on a freeway doing like 65 mph it pulls away nicely to 200 kph not really fast but not stuttering or anything.... air over here is getting colder & denser with moisture and it seems the hawk cant get enough of it it goes like stink !!
@ NZspokes i have just done the snorkel mod but lifted the tank about 1.3 cm
as above lifted needles bij 2mm can i go more ? basic knowledge is that the higher the needles..... fuel+air is entered faster into the carb

What's funny, is since my bike is down (was sent wrong clutch), I just swapped to 52 pilots as well. We now have the exact same jetting.
The 50's were okay, but the more I played with the fuel screws the more the bike ran better with the fuel screws turned past 3 turns out. I will be able to dial it in better once on the road again, but I'm sure it will run great with the 52's.

Ok I have a fault. When cruising at 60mph she shuts down like she is running out of fuel. If i have to stop, few seconds later its fine. Starts and goes fine.
I can and have done a good few full throttle runs to 100mph. Does this no problem.
If I open the fuel cap it does not seem to change. I have checked the tank vent line and blown air through and its clear. I drained the carbs, no water etc. When I restarted the bike I just poured about 20mls of fuel down each choke. It fired up immediately and settled to a nice idle. So its not fuel delivery via the petcock.
What I did do a few weeks ago was remove the carb vents that go into the airbox and put some light mesh over them. Mainly to make removing and refitting the airbox faster. Is there a chance this causing it?
Im running out of ideas. Rest of the time it runs well.
Got my jets now.

I had been kinda thinking that. I can't get them here. I have to import them. I have a track day in a week. Can I jam it open so its constant flow? So I can track day? Then replace it when parts turn up?
Lifting the needles allows more fuel at any given slide lift. It does not change air speed or flow.

yes i agree, but at full slide lift it will get the same fuel amount no matter how much the needle is lifted, so on low and midrange it will get more fuel never really thought it about it like that
... anyway those jets seem quite wallet draining only for that reason i would hope it would run like crap,
also different fuel quality would play a role to what is it that your running on down there ?

So I just need to sort out the bottom end and cruise. Mid and top is stunning. Im on 2 and 2 1/4 turns out on my idles. Will add half a turn tomorrow. Bit surgy on part throttle. But the rest. WOW. And the sound. WOW.
I dont want more power than it now has.
Thanks to the pioneers of this mod. It works.
