Hotter Spark Mod. - Pro's & Con's

Found a write up on removing the resistor from the spark plug cap on the VTR to create a hotter spark. What performance gains would there be? Whats are the pro's and con's of this mod?

The right wing syncophant in Hummer next to you, attempting to listen to Rush Limbaugh while having a fantasy about Sarah Palin might get annoyed. With no resistor, every time your plugs fire they throw a signal about 50'.

I tired this and didn't notice any difference, and I ended up going back to the resistors. It was a long time ago though....

It will also wreak havoc with your cellphone, pace maker and other electronics close by... I don't recommend it in the least... It probably won't damage something as it's all well protected... but forget answearing the phone...

And as far as getting a "hotter spark"... well once somebody provides proof that the marginal difference in available effect that those resistors use actually has any effect I'll believe it... But the resistance in the wiring is only marginally less than that one...

I'd say that replacing the 10y old or so wiring and coils in your ignition system with brand spanking new ones will actually have a greater effect in terms of measurable difference in output than that mod... And I still say that the net effect on how the engine will run is silch nada, nix, nein...

Oh BTW for reference... What I do for a living is design radio circuits in micro electronics... I'm a bumbling idiot when it comes to bike electronics compared to a pro, but better than some... However noise suppression is kind of my field... That resistor uses very little of the juice, its just part of a tuned circuit to make it "play nice" with others...

Ha! Out here it's left wing sycophants driving all the $70k SUVs. Listening to Randi Rhodes and having a fantasy about Barney Frank. I'm sure if you put Obama and purple triangle stickers on your fairing they won't mind the interference.

you do not want to remove resistance from a tuned system. I work at a shop part time and we have snowmobiles in all the time that the owners replace spark plugs and run into problems. They go to the hardware store and buy some plug that "looks" similar. It is non resistor, and it causes their sled to shut down once every 10 min. SO, don't F with Honda's system, unless its a HRC upgrade. Plus, you really can't stand to gain a whole lot. Is the spark on a VTR weak? What is the HP difference between 40Kv and 50Kv? Probably nothing, as we had someone say (seat of the pants).

I found this thread on the subject but it only give a few details, not enough for us VTR guys!

Do you have any other links you could provide that might help?
