Gauge cluster question

Hi I've got a 1998 super hawk and I've tried looking on the forum and can't find anything about this but anyways I want to know if anyone has a link or something about swapping to an 02 to 07 gauge cluster. I hate the idiot light because it comes on at the worst times that's why I want a fuel gauge instead of the light.. I know I'll need a fuel sending unit and a couple other things and possibly the wiring harness. But what will I actually need to do this and is there some kind of mod instructions and a complete parts list to do this? Also is there a difference in fuel capacity between the older tank vs the newer ones Any input is very appreciated. Thank you in advance.

There is a number of differences in the wire harness between the two generations. Most of the swaps of new gauge clusters to older models also included a later model wire harness. Doing that involves a lot of other parts needing to be replaced. Don't know if a late model cluster can be swapped in by just changing out the connectors, which I think are different between the two gens. Not having owned a second gen bike I don't have any direct experience, but I seem to remember it being said that the fuel gauge is not linear. Looks like you have plenty of fuel, then in a few miles you are on reserve. The short range of the bike is, IMO, the biggest negative. I carry a couple of fuel bottles on the bike. Relieves a lot of anxiety.

I DID IT but way better

I swapped my 98 dash to a CBR600RR dash (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I put a sending unit in the gas tank and changed the temp sending unit and now I have a digital dash with digital temp, speedo and gas gauge.

.Here is the crappy vid I made.

I built a whole wiring harness since the wires are all honda the colors correspond. Also the rev pickup is the same signal. I built it so I could always swap back but of course I will never do that.

It matches the CBR600RR front end I have on it which is also amazing.
