It likely can be done but I believe I read on here that you would need to change the wiring harness or parts of it to get things to work right and some sensors like the fuel level are different. Do a search, I have seen this asked a few times.

I'll save you the trouble of searching... just cuz I'm boored out of my skull right now...

You will need the fuel sensor and a front wire harness from the new gen VTR. That's because the plug to the cluster is different...

Then you just match up the wires color by color... it's that easy... Only thing is that the number of ground wires and cluster lighting doesn't match in the harnesses... no big deal...

I did it the other way around and that's another option... I had a spare cluster from the old gen around that was busted so i just soldered up the wires to the plug and sealed it up and then I could swap between the clusters...

Well i didnt know i could but since you bring it up i kinda like it. So the first question would be same deal as the 03+ vtr cluster or different wiring procedure? and will it mount up to a stock upright/front end ? I just looked
1000rr clusters are going for around 200-275 thats not to bad.

You'll need a front wiring loom of a CBR to get the plug... But the wiring isn't that much harder, some colors are different that's all... I'll gladly provide the colors to match it up for you if you want to...

As for the physical fit... You can see I just used a piece of sheet aluminium and a pair of rubber grommets to fit it to the stock bolts... brushed it and painted matte black to make it look nice... That should be no different with a stock fork...

A few things to consider... There is no warning ligth for the stand (the kill switch still works, just no ligth) and a two extra wires for FI error codes and HESD that you just ignore...

But more importantly, you keep the fuel sensor of the early VTR gen and just hook it up, but you need to swap the temp sensor out for a RC51 sensor...

It's also possible you'll need a speedohealer to compensate for the gearing... (I'll sell you mine... 16/43 on a VTR obviously matches a CBR speedo... )

On the plus side you get a nifty shiftlight, a clock, dual tripmeters and an accurate temp gauge...

hey tweet or anyone who has done this,

i'm in the process of doing this conversion and testing the gauges. when i start the bike the tach jumps all over the place and is not functioning like it should. the red oil pressure light stays on and the temp gauge keeps blinking( what sensor should i get from rc51?) everything else works; ie. turn signals, high beam, neutral, fuel level indicator. can you tell me what wires you hooked up? what would cause the tach to act like that? i remember reading in a post about the tach not being accurate because its for a 4 cyclinder but i'm assuming it at least looks normal when functioning. i haven't checked the speedo yet. i didn't use two wires(fuel injection and steering damper ones) only wires i was confused on were the brown/ black, brown from vtr and the brown/ white from cbr which are all ground but..... any help would be great. i guess it might be the gauges too??
