Drat and triple drat!!!!!! Wracked my bike
Drat and triple drat!!!!!! Wracked my bike
at the track. Crunched my ankle and plenty of the Hawk ......I'll get a close look and start a list later today and post it. I'llbe needing a slew of stuff. For starters...fork tubes, left side fairing, radiator mounts etc.....have tomake an appearance at work so off I gimp/(/(/(/(///
Dude, sorry to hear that. Heal quick and get back on the bike. On a positive note, you probably learned something from the incident so unless you're a bonehead you won't make the same one again. Winter's arriving anyway so this'll give you time off your ankle to fix the bike. Time for upgrades? Gonna file insurance claim? Some companies will allow it if the wreck occurred at an "organized training event" such as a NESBA trackday.

Reaper...yah, I'm OK. I'm always OK. Many many brushes with death in my strange life.
My ankle is purple and green and everything in between.
MMMMdad...not really. Turn 2 at Sears Point Raceway is like this...uphill at speed left turn 1 then it 's a hard right and levels off flat so to the rider at speed #2 is OFF camber and the whole bike/susp UNweights alot. I had been practicing powering thru turns and getting on the gas at apex instead of my old bad habit of diving in hard and deep/losing speed and then squaring off and accelerating out. I had moved up to "A" group two laps earlier as I was passing and even lapping the slower riders in "B" group. The "A" group were all VERY fast riders....so I was going fast too.....duh. I powered thru right up over the rise hard leaned over and all of a sudden saw all the tarmac disappear to my right and the dirt fly at me. I only had the presence of mind to stand the bike up and brake as I flew thru the dirt towards the tires and THICK plastic wall in front of them. I sort of combo Tbonedslapped broadsided the tires. My left leg was squashed and I was still going about 40mph at impact so I was thrown up and over into the tires which yanked my left leg up and out of it's pinned position...hence the rainbow colors and pain. Ouch.
Hawkrider....them's the details...tomorrow the pix of damage and list of needed parts. What did I learn? Take your damn time jerkoff!!! Don't try and learn too many things at once. Better to go thru a corner 20 times too slow than 1 time too fast. Ins. claim? Whassat? I hate the slimey bastards so I only carry the legal minimum. Upgrades? Well, the only thing I could upgrade would be a better front end...which I will consider if rebuilding my stocker comes to 50% of a better one. I JUST redid the front with RT springs, bushings, seals, dusts, Gvalves and your secret rebound trick. BTW, the bike handled WONDERFULLY. Before going down I was having some serious fun. I learned one more thing....it might be a good idea to build a track only bike and leave my street fun bike like I had it. One stripped down, light, thrasher, and one that can carry my honey and I for the weekend up the coast.

Oh yeah! Almost forgot.....tires! I had just put on new Power Pilots as per track rules. They were broken in BUT!!!...I had noticed something days earlier. My old set were D208s. Once warmed up they were very predictable and the front had a nice wide edge for those deep leans. I had them fully shredded right to the edge and knew where the limit was. The PPs however...the front has an almost vertical curve right before the sidewall begins. I had noticed that they "dropped in" nicely but I bet that had I still had the 208s on there I would have been able to save that corner. I will run the PPs till they're toast on the street but any future track days ...I will run track tires...period.
Oh ..and post scriptum #2........doing serious riding? Buy serious protection. Period. I had "almost" purchased new "real" riding boots. Y'know...the ones that look like lunar landing modules? Had I listened to that little voice in my head and bought a pair before yesterday.....my ankle would be fine now. Hope y'all'r listening...???

Which one is the bike?
Glad you're ok - buy a VFR Even my kid's GFs think the VFR is a badass bike. Until they see the Superhawk. There are no pass pegs on this bitch for a reason.
Back from work due to pain...leg's going up in the air, body's going on the floor.....ugh.
Got a better look at the bike...looks like I lucked out (so to speak). Damage appears to be minor. Left side fairing, radiator mounts, fork tubes, left mirror, etc. I'll probably repair what I have up front as I just spent time and money with RC51 calipers and MC, RT springs and valves, new seals and bushings etc. I'll have to check the triples and neck for straightness but may get lucky there.
So..who's got parts? Reaper? I'll pm you later...nap time.

Hey redman,
Glad to hear that you are ok. I am also located in norcal (Vacaville) and might have a lot of the parts that you need in the garage. I did a front end swap (RC-51) so I have a complete 98 front end. The forks have 90kg springs and gold valves, so I have the clip ons, front wheel, left fairing with minor scratches, upper and lower triple, front fender, clutch lever, steel braided brake lines.
I am in Utah for turkey day but will be back on the 24th if you want to take a look at all of the parts. PM me or just use the forum if you have any questions. Good luck on a speedy recovery!
Thanks Dennis
