Brace Yourself?
Brace Yourself?
I'm preparing to fab up a braced swingarm and I'd like to know which donor swingarm would be best, and why. I'm thinking '96 - 99' CBR900RR as the rear most ends of the brace are slightly tapered more inline with the configuration of VTR swingarm axle mounting points. Thoughts?
It's been forever but IIRC a 1st gen (93-'95 I believe) 900RR would be the easiest. The 2nd gen will also fit fine just a little more work as the front part of the brace isn't just a flat piece like the earlier one. Make sure you also cut off the caliper bracket as you'll need that to relocate yours.
Thanks for the info my friend. My plan is to remove the carrier locator and use the one off the CBR900 swinger. That way I should be able to utilize the CBR caliper that mount as well. I've got line on a '96 (2nd gen?)complete with the mount for a good price. I don't mind a little trimming. Happy New Year and thanks for your parts help over the years.

Donor swing arm is a 94 Honda CBR 900rr
I choose the early year (pre 1998) 900rr because I wanted the brace with the box style front leg. I believe it makes a more stable, better looking swap, then the twin leg version.

The 1998-1999 CBR 900 rr used the twin leg brace.. and I've seen it work out ok, but the sculpted part needed for clearance near the shock, just never looked right to me.. cept one, and that rider boxed in the two legs with sheet aluminum once they were welded.
