I was expecting to do this:
yea thats correct, but once you make that cut,it dosn't just fall off. That tube is 12" long and welded to a brace.I inserted a dremel with a cut off wheel and cut around the inside. What was your plan, beat on it with a hammer. If you look at the small pcture you can see how it is constructed inside.I think I bought my hole saw at YardBirds,Which was no place special, and out of business now.

after sleeping on it and without researhing anything else, I think a larger hole saw and a hammer was used by some to break that tube from the welds, resulting in the small pic.

I think the hole saw is actually 2 1/4 to do the job right looks sweet. Ill check tomarrow. It fits perfect and makes it look aftermarket.

I bought the 2 1/16" It was $16 and was another $1.50 for the extra 1/16"

I didn't have a chance last night to check the depth....tonight for sure and if it fits....bye bye baffle.

Thanks dogger

I'll take pics when I do it....maybe help out the next guy...

Oh...and I'm going to take the dremel home from work for the weekend....in case I need it.

Great thoughts. At this point the bike is new and I am not handy. I am drilling (12,3,6,9 o'clock) probably start with a pilot drill them 1/4 then 1/2 in one swoop. From what I understand the shavings isn't an issue and I can leave the pipes on when I drill? Anything else I should consider? Also fixing the fender cutting with a razor then fine sandpaper taking the signals off and then integrated smoke light. thoughts

Attached some pics - looks kinda cool - gatlin guns.
I drilled twice as many 1/2" holes in my stock '04 pipes, its barks!

1999 Super Hawk Bafflectomy

I just picked up my 1999 Super Hawk off Craigslist, first order of business was a new rear tire followed by this bafflectomy I kept hearing about. I picked up a 2 1/8" Ace brand metal hole saw at Miner's Hardware, it sliced right through the baffle wall.

The sound was really incredible, not brassy but throaty, with a quiet rumble at idle; wife says she can hear me coming home from about 4 blocks away, I'll be putting around 3000rpm.

Interesting to note, the bike was purchased used with factory exhaust, but it had been jetted for an Erion system. After opening up the baffle wall and allowing a little more airflow I noticed less of the backfire pop during decceleration.

FYI.

I intend to remove the outer baffle completely and then primer and paint the interior of the can with some VHT FlameProof Hi-Temp paint, I understand it really helps disguise the "guts" inside the can, and also preserves it.

Shoot, I may just paint the entire exhaust system with the VHT black paint. Pictures may follow.

Bafflectomy Pictures

Here's a few pics post baffle removal. I used a 2 1/8" hole saw, it fit perfectly:
