NOOB here. My first Bike is a SH...
Hello all...been lurking for a few but wanted to say Hello.
I purchased a 1998 SH bone stock, 18,000 roughly, new tires, recent valve service and CCT service. Runs great. Came with a set of Vance&Hines slip on's so I installed them. Ordered a set of All ***** to replace the worn bearings.
Anyways I'll have better pics soon but this is me out on the road...

Cool, unfortunately you got the slowest color...
Now do your homework on proper street riding technique, and be careful! With the mountain of midrange the superhawk is deceptive at how fast it accelerates.

10-4 on the proper riding technique! Have already adjusted my weight off the bars as the right hand went numb a time or two. Now that I'm off the bars its pretty comfy. Definately a muscle memory technique though as its not natural at first.
Already loving the torque and engine breaking. To be honest though I have not really opened her up yet though. Just trying to get miles logged in and practice.
As far as color goes, at least I will look good sitting still though!!!

Congrats! SH was my first bike too. Be carefull and dont over do it or you will learn the hard way like I did. Its a great bike, most other bikes just arent as fun to ride. I cant wait to get mine put back together and start rideing it again.

I'm not downshifting to slow the bike down, I use the brakes. I like the fact that when in gear and you let off the gas the twin slows the bike a bit more than a inline 4 does. I don't lug it either, and try to stay over 3k at all times....
But by all means keep the tips coming...I am by no means an expert!

Two tips for survival that come to mind right away:
1) Target fixation. You tend to go where you look, so if you don't want to run off the side of the road...don't look at the side of the road. Look down the road through your intended line.
2) People in 4 wheeled vehicles want to kill you. Watch out for them at all times. Don't ride in someone's blind spot, and be aware of all the vehicles around you. Leave an escape route (which sometimes is just gassing it) for when the unexpected cager cuts you off.
I normally wouldn't recommend a liter bike to a novice, but the SuperHawk is very user friendly. And it sounds like you are respecting the machine. Have fun and stay safe.

I remember a fairly long thread showing that the 98s (which i believe only came in red) had a better cam which makes them the fastest.
