Charging Issue

O.k. So here is the deal... I have a 98 VTR, I've rebuilt the thing from the ground back up. I have been having a charging issue with it, and just got done putting in a brand new stator. I took the bike out, it did fine. i stopped somewhere and turned it off... Turned it back on and nothing, had to jump it. got it back to the house.... less than a mile away, and touched the stator casing... it was so hot that it left a burn mark on my finger.... Any ideas? I'm really stressed and need to figure out something quick. Thanks!

Well, considering the stator casing is part of the engine, and get heated from that when the bike is running, I'd say that getting burns from touching it is fairly normal if one is dumb enough to try it...

On a more serious note, diagnosing electronics by temperature is a very unreliable way, it's mostly guesswork... Get a multimeter, the electrosports fault finding chart (search to find a link) and figure out what part is the culprit, might or might not be the stator, they are hard to damage, a lot easier to damage an R/R or battery...

Good luck...

Yeah I was thinking the R/R due to the fact that it has not been replaced and yes I know that it is probably very hot due to being part of the engine just seemed a lot hotter than it should be. Thanks!

The engine cases are aluminum & magnesium based, they spread heat very well... And to clarify, the reason I feel comfortable ribbing you for touching it... Well let's just say, welcome to the club...
