not TOTALLY weatherproof...it does have the achilles heal of the power connection which can corrode and cause problems if wet (I've been told, no personal experience as it's out of my price range)...looks like a good unit though.

I use a NUVI 760 for my GPS travels...for the VTX, I've got an Aqua Box from RAM so it's out of the weather. on the SHawk, it goes in the map pocket of my tank bag and i can just touch through to use it there. slim enough to carry in my jeans pocket when stopped, mp3 player, FM transmitter, works very well for me so far.

A bunch of the people on the KLR forum use the Garmin 2610 Reburbs...I found the 2720 for less, and it has more upgrades...There are 2 or 3 Ebay sites selling the bulk of them..all with respected feedback...I won an auction on one of them the other night...or you can use there buy it now, still not bad prices $159 to $179

Ordered the Ram cradle for it, as I already have the Ram bike mount...they should get here about the same time...

I used a Magellan Explorist 200 up til now...it is ok, but after 3 years the screen has gone light, so it is hard to read...It still works, I will keep it as back up, and to be able to walk around with it...

I've thought about these but I'm curious in day to day use, how do you use this while riding? do you use the voice too with a headset? do you stop and use it or use it on the fly? can you genuinely use it while riding?

thanks?

Nothing on my SH, but I've got a ZUMO 550 w/XM radio on my ST1300 and its AWESOME! Guaranteed waterproof (I've ridden through rainstorms that had ducks huddled under overpasses...), easy to use with gloves on, XM radio and MP3 player for music, etc. If you're going to get a GPS for the your bike, you can't go wrong with the ZUMO.

Disclaimer: I am not a paid celebrity spokesperson for Garmin. I only sound like it...

I just came across this thread as I'm looking into buying a GPS unit, probably a Garmin 60cx, but I'm still looking.

I'm wondering what mounting a GPS unit on the Superhawk is like. It's pretty tight in and around the instrument cluster - has anyone figured out a good way to fit it in? I'm wondering if a Ram mount can be bolted to one of the fairing stays above and to the left/right of the instrument cluster. It would be great to see pics of your setup if you have them.

Are there any GPS's that have the option to display you speed full screen, or at least more than a little box in the corner??

I have a Nuvi 255 and I think with all the Nuvi's if you click on the speedometer it shows it "full screen"

Just go a NUVI 360. Works pretty well and was cheap enough at $176, but they are discontinued. Walmart and Amazon had them last week.

I have not thought of mounting it on the SH, but tonight I am going to see if mounting the windshield suction cup to the tach will work. That seems like a safe place even in a light rain.

If that works I will carry a plastic bag with an elastic to protect it in heavy rains and tie a safety line to it, just in case the suction cup gives out, but it holds really well to the car windshield.

The nuvi 360 is supposed to work for 8 hrs on a full charge.

Well I tried mounting it. The tach is a decent spot for the windshield mount. Have to position it in the 10:00 area of the tach so the right clip does not hit it, but all in all it will work.

I am a dealer for portable navs, I have not made a mont for my bike yet, but will before the spring, otherwise, I have found the PowerAcoustik 4.3" Nav to be one of the faster models to search and renavigate. Also has more POI than most navs. And they are pretty cheap for the bigger screen. Also the Nextar navs are nice and small for mounting on bikes. Also a nice piece. Decisions, decisions? lol

I've seen a 60cx in a RAM mount, bolted onto the steering nut somehow. Has anyone mounted theirs up near the instruments? I don't want to mount it on the cluster (like the suction cup idea above), but I'm thinking of bolting it to the fairing framework. Has anyone tried this?
