Tall Rider Input Needed

A buddy of mine asked for ideas of bikes that may fit him. He's 6'7", but basically tall and thin. He's ridden enduro bikes most of his experience but looking for a good street bike.

He's intested in something more upright instead of a sport bike. He's not into cruisers and wants something that would be good for weekend, spirited back-road riding.

I suggested the Suzuki VStrom in either the 650 or 1000, or kaswasaki Versys 650.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Hello Old Yeller. I am 6' 4" and fit very well on my 650 WeeStrom. I also have a 2002 Concours that works well, when fitted with Murph's foot peg lowering brackets and GL1800 footpegs. Also know as "Peg Lowerer's - Kneesavers".

Out of the ~ dozen motorcycles we have, the WeeStrom is my favorite.

I'm 6'4" and I fit comfortable on my 'Hawk, but probably because of my football background. I'm used to being in an athletic, cramped stance. My recommendation for your friend is a hybrid/dual-purpose bike. They're significantly taller than a street bike and sit much more comfortable. I test drove one awhile back and it was almost like riding a large dirtbike.

Id have a look into the FZ1, Z1000 or something like a suzuki bandit 1200.. tell him to get to a dealer and find something he's comfortable on and likes.. that's the best advice you can really give someone

Anything made by BMW seems to be geared for taller riders.

Other than the adventure sport suggestions, that's exactly what I told him. Besides the fit questions, I also know that when you see/feel a certain bike, it will speak to you.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll pass along what you've mentioned!

I'm 6'3" and quite stocky. Most of my height is in my legs and arms. I find the hawk comfy enough, but ready for a break somewhere around 1.5 hours in.

I sat on a handful of dealer bikes before buying the hawk. SV650 was great, fz6 seemed a little more cramped, aprilia shiver was practically custom molded to me. The hands down most natural position was on the KLR 650. It was also the tallest and largest feeling bike and probably is going to be my second bike once funds permit. You say he's already on enduros though so perhaps the KLR is out.

I'm 6'8" and fit on the Hawk ok, but as with most bikes I'm working on making it more comfortable for me. My suggestion would be a larger supermoto bike which would retain the more vertical riding position. A KTM 950/990 SMR or 690 SMR would be awesome for him. Ducati Hypermotard or the Aprilia version are ok but $$$.
