Taking a VTR to the track? anyone?
#31
I've taken the VTR to the track for the last 10 years and its a blast. I don't have problem keeping ahead of most 600's because the VTR has great pull out of the corners. Yes front and rear suspension work is better but that all depends on how fast you are in the corners. If you can hold your own with the fast group, with the exception of the straights, then maybe you should have the suspension taken care of first. If you don't already have a 5mm spacer inserted at the top of the rear shock to raise the rear ride height, do it now. Then set the front SAG to 25-30mm and the rear at 25mm if you can. At 150 lb, you won't need any preload. If there is a suspension guru at the track, have him set the rebound. And finally, ride in the right group. Nothing is more dangerous than to have someone either way to fast or way to slow in your group. That only applies to corner speed. After that, go have some fun. Anyone can go fast on the straights but there is no better feeling than to chase down a higher horsepower bike and take him going into or out of a corner.
