Re: Superhawk MPG
I don't want to patronize anyone but remember too that the US gallon is smaller than the Imperial Gallon (ie. 3.76L vs 4.54L) so the quoted MPG figures will not necessarily be an accurate barometer

You're going to get a lot of varying answers with this due to jetting and altitude. For us sea level people it should be right around what marm said but for mountain "folk" in Coloroado and such, they'll get around 40.

Re: Superhawk MPG
There's also many others importants factors that will influenced a lot the MPG:
1- The way you twist the right handlebar!!
2- Highway vs city riding
3- Riding with: A. Alone B. Girlfriend C. Friends
4- Riding with friends who have: A. Customs. B. Harley C. GSXR1000!!!

Re: Superhawk MPG
I usually get 40-43 with mostly highway riding and no showing off My SH is mostly stock mechanically except for a k&n filter. Like the others said there are many variables that affect gas mileage...

Re: Superhawk MPG
The stock odometer (on the Canadian versions which registers distance in km), if you are running stock gearing, is actually spot on. I checked this while travelling through Manitoba a few years back as they have test strips set out to test this very thing and I found it to read 100% accurate. Of course, maybe the US version is different.
For typical highway running @ 120 km/h (or about 75 MPH for the Metrically-challenged), I usually get in the area of 43-50 MPG (Imperial).

Re: Superhawk MPG
I get 160kms/tank average.
On one trip I did almost 300kms highway ridingwithout a problem.
BTW, how do you know if you have half a tank?
the fuel gauge on the 2001+ were not that accurate, and when it starts to flash you should have approximately 4 more liters.

1 Mile is equal to 1.6 Kilometers(or in your words "Canadian Mile")
and believe me the bikes computer will convert that EXACTLY to 3 decimals so that is not the reason if the original statement is even true

Re: Superhawk MPG
OMG!
MPH vs. MPG
Big litre vs. little litre
Imperial vs. peasants
Rear wheels with front tires that won't stay on the ground
Canadian mile exchange rates vs. US mile exchange rates
Kilometers vs Milimeters
The roaring 20s vs the slower 40s
High altitude vs. Sealevel
Highways vs. Cities (does this mean civil war?)
Custom girlfriends needing new boyfriends because they ride Suzukis
Being alone because you ride in a gaggle of Harleys
Human error vs computers to the exacting 3 decimal
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I need to lay down

Re: Superhawk MPG
My 05 hawk is fresh off the show room floor and my first tank of fresh gas only got me 25 mpg. I just filled up for the third time today, and am now getting 35 mpg; and that is taken it easy with some freeway use.

well I filled up today when the Fuel gauge was in the "E" section and it took 10L so it was really only half a tank gone and I got 32 M.P.G. based on a imperial gallon or 28mpg based on a US gallon
on a side note is there a Reserve light or anything that comes on? and when? im still trying to find a PDF owners manual so I can read about all the stupid stuff like what that black bar below the temperature represents.

Wow you totally missed the point of my post. This must be why Canadians hate Americans.

18% horsepower loss? Ouch! I'm averaging 30mpg with -1 on the front. My gearing calculations imply that I should see around 29 average when I go -1/+2 front/rear. Best I've ever seen was 38 and what was on a tank riding with a group which included a Hondamatic. How fast do you guys getting 40ish mpg travel on the highway, and are you on Imp gallons?

Hello everyone, I'm new here. My Firestorm/SuperHawk is a standard 98FV model. It's done 32,000 miles and is my only motorcycle so gets used for every type of Journey.
I get 42 - 45 MPIG riding on Motorway / A roads on my daily 90 mile commute. Speed is variable 75-90 mph in sometimes heavy traffic. Today with a lot of wet weather and high winds I stuck to about 85 and it returned 44.5 MPIG over 135 miles using 13.8 ltrs (small tank). I am hoping to convert to a VFR tank soon which should hold 21 ltrs so I'm expecting a max range of 190 miles from full to RLOD with a reserve of 2.5 ltrs.
