OK, I'm outta here finally

Ok, it's 9:11 pm est, I'm waiting on the wife to get back from the grocery store and I'm outta here, heading to Sturgis S.D.!!! woohoo, I hope to be there early monday morning! I know it's a day after sturgis, but the hell it'll be a cool ride and by Wednesday, I'll have 3200+ miles behind me and be back at the grindstone. So wish me luck! and I will take notes and post my adventures on here when I get back. I took pics of my d208's with 2000 miles on them so I can compare their wear, if anyone has questions about d208's this ought to answer them. They are sticky, no doubt, but how many times will they spin before they get worn to the cord. I live about a 1/2mile from Bristol Raceway and man those bikes from the Tn HOG chapter have been roaring outta hear all day, I hope to catch some of them and tag along with any of them who might be going my way. Well, I'm gone, got the Doan's pills and B12, covered in muscle rub, which is hotter than all get out right now.

Ha! Trust me...if you're riding a Super Hawk, tagging along w/ the Harleys will get boring real fast... or real slow... whichever it is.

Dude, there's no way that rear 208 is going to make nearly 5500 miles in the summer. Well, unless you ride with a pack of hogs at 60mph the whole time! :-)
Good luck and be safe.

A local rider was nutz enough to ride his KLR650 up there a couple years ago. His helmet was promptly stolen. It was a nasty lid so I'm sure the intent was a message and not coveted.

I live here in Rapid City, 30 mi from Sturgis....mass exodus of the Sturgis crowd already happening, but that means better riding for you! Tons of bikes still around however, but those Hogs don't move very quickly....makes for fun overtakes at 100+ past packs of 6-10 though...

lol...actually have thought of that, but luckily many are professionals dressed up as bad boys for the week, so usually one is safe. Just look for vests proclaming affliliation and 1% before screaming past

whew made it back!

I just walked through the door and flipped on the laptop, i will take pics of tires, I took some before shots. The wear bars are showing but not flush with the tire yet, man what a ride, once in I got into Iowa I finally left the interstate, went to Capt. Kirks future birthplace in Riverside Iowa, what a hoot that was, rained that night on me, Iowa is huge! And the roads rule, however i had to keep slowing down because of the "grittiness" of the road my front tire started getting chewed up badly. Ran ethol gas in Iowa, couldn't tell any difference in hp or mileage. One tank got 43 mpg! I tried going 65 on the next tank and could only get to 35 or so mpg, so I back to fast. My only speed inhibiting factor was the tires, fear of having to blow a wad of cash just for tires was not going to happen. I wish I had spent the 23 dollars on a VistaCruise so I could ride without hands. I really overpacked, I wore my leathers the whole time and should've just taken 2 t shirts and a sleeping bag. Didn't see a cop one until I was back in Kentucky. Rode between 4000 and 5000 rpm most of the trip and got about 115 to 128 miles between fillups. The Harley guys weren't all that bad, only got one thumbs down from some ole hag on a 883 sportster. The bike rode flawless, need a new chain though, this one's toast, sounds like a train following me, bought a can of PJ1 in Otumwa Iowa now the bikes covered in chain lube, at least it won't squeak. So maybe I'll do that 530 conversion. I'm zonked. What an awesome ride and the d208's still have tread on them! Although I may have to reround the tires this weekend. thanks for the comments while I was riding. Wasn't even sure if anyone would read this.

Sounds like an epic trip. I can't comprehend doing that on a stock seat however since I am in real pain by 120 mi. Post some pics when you have a chance.
