new to SH forum

Hello everyone, my name is Jeff. I am new here ,but not new to motorcycles. I have owned several sportbikes over the years, including the direct competition of the vtr... a 97 suzuki tl 1000s. I have always loved the superhawk though.
I recently acquired a 98 SH through a trade for my old hawk (1978 cb400t) ...yes someone actually made this trade with me. The SH has 34k miles. I have no idea how this bike was cared for. It definitely needs some attention though.
The PO said he replaced the cct's ( anyway I can tell for sure if this was done?) It has a high mount mig exhaust. Other than that, I don't know what else has been done to this bike. I am about to tear into it.. ill start with checking out the jetting in the carbs and balance them.
It seems that the SH pops a lot on deceleration and gives an occasional slight backfire.
It also seems that valve clacking can be heard during acceleration when giving a good twist of the throttle. I plan on addressing these issues before I start enjoying this beast on the road.
I am very happy to have found this forum. It seems like a tight knit community of people who like to help each other. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to making this site what it is. I have already found very useful information here which I plan on using to restore the superhawk back to its glorious days of youth.
See you around..much appreciation
Jeff

Welcome! I'm with HRCA, I recently got mine (my 2nd SH) and am getting all the previous owners F-ups fixed. It's about back to par now. Then on with the upgrades! LOL!

As for the CCT's there really isn't a way to tell if he's done them unless he's installed the manual ones. If he went back to stockers then there isn't a way to tell that I know of. Manual ones will look like a bolt sticking out with a locknut so those will be very obvious if he changed it to those.

I have the oe auto ccts..I did see a paint dot on the rear cct.. I haven't really looked at the front yet... does the dot mean its relatively new

Fixing PO neglect seems to be a common theme round here..poor SuperHawks

What color is the paint dot? That is how you tell the if they are the newer ones. Though I always recommend changing them on a "new to you" Sh as you don't know how they were treated.

I'm anxiously awaiting the verdict. I searched the forum and didn't come across anything indicating what color paint dot means newer/better OE CCTs.

p.s.. Welcome to the forum!
