New To Forum New To Superhawks

Hello all,

Last Monday brought about a road ditch and the rapid demise of my much loved 919, but tomorrow I pick up an '04 Superhawk. I've been doing some reading and getting some good information but I have a few questions. I am a fair hand with a wrench but my 919 was so good to me over the 10 years I had it, I never had to do anything to it but change the oil. So what should I look out for on the hawk? I've read about CCT's and r/r's going bad, but I'll admit I don't know what that stands for. The bike is all OEM and has 11.5k on it and according to the previous owner it has never been in the shop for anything. What would you guys recommend doing right away? I suppose that's enough for now I look forward to getting to know this forum and my new bike. Thanks

hello, welcome to the forum.congrats on your new bike.
you can ride the bike the way it is.R/R should be fine for the moment along with the cct's.for the moment, just enjoy the bike.
you can order the stuff and ride while you wait lol
if it has the stock R/R,it will fail at one point.
if it has stock cct's,well, either atleast get new stock ones or go with manual cct's.
the stock ones on bike is probably the original and am a firm believer that time trumps miles.i would do the manuals, but its up too you.
but no matter, keep those 2 things on top of the list to do.once you do that, you good to go,except you will get the fever, and than its all over from there lol

Paint it white. It makes it faster.

Welcome to the forum. Hope you love your new S'Hawk, it's a different kind of machine. Everyone here has been really helpful to me I am sure you will find the same.

Advice: Never ask what kind of oil, tires, or oil filter to use... just sayin'...

Welcome to the forum Colors. I am a little over 20k miles on an original un-finned r/r. Definitely do the cct's first as the r/r won't potentially grenade your motor when it fails.

Thanks for the replies!

Saige, I think I'll take your advice on the manual CCT's, seems thats the best way to go. Hopefully nothing fails before winter and I can install them after I'm done riding for the year.

Cranken, I am very disappointed I can't ask about tires, oil, and filters as those were my next three questions but I'll get over it... I guess, since I have to.

Anyway I'm out the door to go get this Bird so I'm done messin about on the computer for today!

Nope, everyone knows that red is faster.

Hope you enjoy the SH as much as I have mine!

There's no paint faster than the original paint.

Compare

I really want a detailed comparison cuz I almost added a cb919 to keep the Hawk on it's toes. Instead I added something else--show it later on another thread. When the 919 came out I was riding a zx12 and the like so the 919 looked well um, can't say for sure. But it trips my trigger now so when you can, write up up a review for us and -----------welcome!!

Welcome into the cult, dont drink the coolaid.

This bike is awesome and still a honda so very reliable. Most guys around here have wrenchitis (I am first in line) but if you choose not to you can just ride it.

You may notice the suspension is by far the weak link and can be fixed first with adding thick/ more fork oil, then springs. then valves, then even a CBR1000RR swap over.

VTRsurfers response is a good testament to reliability.

Aloha and welcome to the forum. Wish you much happiness and excitement with your new ride. Get to know the bike and bond. Just changed my ccts to manuals. Got over 67K on her now. No problems with the O.E.M. ccts, just getting her ready for the next
50K+ miles/smiles. Ride Well...

Thanks for the salutations, I will write a comparison as soon as I get the carbs cleaned out on the Shawk. The bike is my only form of transportation at the moment and I haven't had a down weekend to wrench on it yet. That and I need to get proper tires on it. The previous owner put adventure touring tires on it. Really screws with the handling, very slow turn in almost no feel for grip. They are aweful, I've got a set of M3's that will go on again as soon as I get a weekend free.

Welcome to the form...The Superhawk is a blast to ride. Plus when parked among many other bikes..Its easy to pick out due to its lack of large numbers..
