My first VTR, well most of one
i went to the fridge for a beer, come back and you've got the thing painted and all back together! you move faster than the plot on a soap opera.
i assume there is no priming involved when you apply the bed liner, correct?

The brace just makes the swingarm more rigid. There is nothing wrong with the stock swinger, but all swingarm flex to a degree.
The less flex the better feel and response you get while leaned over in a high speed corner.
Im making the bike I want too, thanks

you could easily sell those braced swingers, just buy one off ebay, weld up the brace then when someone wants one you sell the one already done and have them send you theirs as a core. There would be less down time that way. The swingarm looks great by the way.
It's lookin' better all the time, Truck. I think you have enough interest here to warrant BBQ gathering for its debut.
I looked back through posts but couldn't find you mentioning what you did to move the oil cooler down - is it just a matter of chopping the pipes at the hose end? Or did you find some shorter replacements?

I would have to make those brackets and sell them also.
Ive got at least 20 hours of work into the swingarm brace alone.
Who knows, I may sell it.

Here is the process for the oil cooler.
Find its new home.
I drilled and tapped 2 holes on the bottom of the front cly. Then fabbed up an aluminum mounting bracket.
I then cut the steel portion of the oil line, shortening it by over a foot, and made the ends match up well.
The steel is extremely thin and welding it is not easy. Thats why I havent done the other side yet.
Ive seen it done with a piece of rubber hose to connect the two half's, but I dont trust that as Ill be making over thousand mile trips on the bike.
Thanks for the step-by-step.
MMMMMM BBQ.

well ive come to a realization today. I really need to have surgery as soon as possible on my knee. If not Ill be crippled FOREVER.
The biggest part that sucks is that I have no insurance and cant afford surgery. My first knee surgery ran around 80k.
So here goes. I guess this project is up for sale. I REALLY wanna keep it, but Im in need of some money.
I may finish it and then sell it, who knows. This sucks.
Sorry to let anyone down.

Ugh, that sucks man sorry to hear that. I had a couple knee surgeries from a motorcycle accident and was lucky enough to be working for a big bank at the time and had good insurance. But I also separated my shoulder without insurance and am currently without and it sucks. I wanted to comment on how much better the bike gets every time I see it. I love the swingarm. Maybe you could put the bike up for sale when it's done with the option to buy it back when you're able to. I'm sure you could find some good folks on here who would. Best wishes with the knee.
That sucks man. I'm really going to miss my daily updates. This project is unbelievable. I'd say finish it. With your skills it's worth way more finished than not. Good luck whatever happens.
I'd say you are going to get a lot more for it finished... So even if I hate it as an idea completely, you could possibly shorten the buildtime by doing things a bit less complicated but keeping the style, get it done and get the money...
Health is more important than a bike... And certainly more important than our daily fix of this thread... You can always get another VTR for cheap and start a fresh build later...
If there is any stock parts missing that we can add to get it running let me know, I migtht have some, an so might others...

Parts ... let's see, I've got a stock seat. Nope, that won't do. I've got a stock mirror. Na uh, won't fit on this bike. Ummm, how about a magnetic tank protector?
Joking of course. Truck, really sorry to hear about your knee. Maybe it's in the way of working on the bike? If not, I agree with Tweety, get the bike done and then market it. That'll help. The suggestion of plying your skills in the industry makes sense, too.

holy moly that sucks. $80k. geeze.
i suppose if you got a job there is still no way insurance will come with it considering that pre existing condition. hide it for a few months then bring it out when you have benefits? that wouldn't work.
man, that is one shitty situation.
you can just about do anything with metal. too bad you don't have someone to do the work for your knee.

Truck,
That is one nice bike but it isn't worth 80K. If you are going to have to make payments forever anyway you might as well keep the bike. Use it to demonstrate how skilled you are at fabbing and sell your services not your bike. You could VERY easily set up a booth at local bikenights, rallys, shows ect. and get a lot of work. I do leather work and I've covered my Mutant with leather instead of paint. Every time I take it somewhere people come up to look at it and then it inspires them to hire me to do leather work for them. Without the bike as a showpiece I wouldn't even get a look much less get work from them. Don't get rid of your best advertisement.
Also look into Tenncare or any of the new programs that they have come up with help if you can't find a job with insurance.
