looking to buy a VTR

hey guy's.
Im new to the forum, My name is Chris im 20 yrs old.
I live in England, Ive got 2 bikes at the mo.
A honda cbr900rr Fireblade and a honda cb400sf.

Im looking at buying a honda VTR1000 firestorm (superhawk)
What problems should i be looking out for in particular with this bike?

I did take a very short test ride of one the other day.

It was very chuggy whilst riding. I dont mean a V-twin chuggyness, but more of a lurching feel to it.

Do they all do that?
or was it just too cold? Or was something wrong?

. The temp gauge wasnt off the stop.
. chain was in good condition and adjusted fine

Also what are they like to live with as a;
sunday rideout bike?
1 or 2 trackdays a year?
commuting?
touring?

Welcome

Superhawks are pretty bulletproof. The only things to look for are the regulator/rectifier (R/R) and the cam chain tensioner (CCT). Do a search on these two items and you will find that this forum is loaded with knowlege about these two issues.

As for living with the VTR, loads of fun. The only downer is the tank range. I get 100-120 miles to a tank. For some roads that means that I plan where gas stations are.

VTR's are pretty smooth off from the bottom end, if they have been jetted and synced properly.

hiya
thanks for the reply. (at least someone did 60 views!).

I've had RR problems with honda's before, so its nothing new to me. (unless it has stator problems too).

I have been reading the project thread, and ive seen the CCT's on that.
Its a great idea, i will get one if I buy the bike.

Do you mean the temp guage didn't move? I just bought a vtr a few weeks ago and neither did mine, I thought it was broken.

Mine takes quite a while to come off the peg when just idling.
