Ok so today as all of us do I am fiddling with the hawk. I have a couple of questions. What type of air filter is this? I also wanted to know if I can make block off plates where the two small filters go inside the airbox. Of course I would make the hole in the middle. Last but not least the carbs each have a snorkle on them with nothing attached when I blow air thru the snorkel it comes out of the the 3 small brass fittings ont the carb.

 

Well that looks like a K&N without the plastic that should be attached to it. There also should be a small foam filter in each of those holes in the airbox which you are supposed to have some rubber blocks, which mount under the plastic part of the filter.

Your best bet would be go pick up a stock filter and a pair of sub-filters and run it that way. Otherwise you need to reattach the filter to the plastic. Contact K&N and see if they will send you a set of the rubber blocks and buy a pair of sub-filters (yes they are important), the choice is up to you.

What is shown in the third photo from the left is a nipple for an air vent tube. See p. 5-8 of the Service Manual.

 

You cannot fit block off plates to replace the two small filters. They are breathers for the carbs vacuum slides.
