With stock gearing, your speedo should be reasonably correct as far as the wheel speed, apart from the factory speedo error being between 5-10% as it's far from the "calibration speed" of the speedo... So, if we discount tire slippage and tire growth as they should at least partially cancel each other out, your real speed was somewhere between 144 and 152, but that's only guesswork, as we don't actually know your particular speedo error...

A better way is to actually look at the tacho... Tacho x gear = "real speed" much closer than the actual speedo, if you calculate out the speed...

I hit a speedo-indicated 140mph on my '98, stock gearing with full K&N intake, jet kit, and slip-ons and I had plenty left but I let off, fastest I've gone on a bike and didn't want to push my luck haha. But the guy I bought the bike off of got it up to a GPS-indicated 164mph and he is a BIG dude, soooo....

Shift to six, and lose MPH. The bike could puller a taller 5th or shorter sixth, but not the top gear it has which would be good to an indicated 180ish. This with k&n, custom pipe, jetting. I have made changes and was having issues getting this top speed again, but I haven't retested since. It will go 120-130 with full luggage before wind drag kills it completely (i mean this).
Just this weekend my cousin ('09 GSXR750) and I found a nice downhill straight stretch to top out, my speedo was somewhere in the vicinity of 170-172, at about 9000rpms in 6th. When we stopped he said his digital speedo bounced 182mph for a second and stayed at 181 for a few seconds until he let off, and he was SLOWLY inching away from me. Remind you this was downhill. I know this is all hear-say, but my Hawk didn't have any trouble doing it. I plan on installing a GPS and getting an accurate reading and checking back in. Full K&N intake, jetted, custom slip-ons, I don't know if gearing is stock or not but I'm assuming it is..
