Cct instruction translation help
Cct instruction translation help
Hi all. Quick favor to ask from the forum. I currently live in Germany and am preparing to switch to manual cct's. I was wondering if someone could translate the cct swap instructions from the knowledge base to German for me. My mechanic has a RC51 so I am sure he is familiar on how to do it, but I just want to make sure I have all my bases covered. I would do it myself but I don't trust myself that I am that mechanically inclined. I tried google translate but it is not effective with grammatical formatting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I can't translate anything for you, but the swap is easy enough, if you know what you're doing. Personally, I think the write-up by LineArrayNut is better than the one by Calitoz, but YMMV.

1) Make sure the rear cylinder is on TDC (top dead center) of the compression stroke. The easiest way to do this is to remove or at least loosen the valve cover, so you can see the ends of the cams. I wish it were easier to see into the cylinder bore, because then you could skip this step too. When they both point up (they won't point straight up, I believe they point to the 10 and 2 o'clock positions) and your cylinder is at the top of its stroke, you're golden. 2) Loosen and remove the old CCT and replace it with the new MCCT. 3) Tighten it finger tight, then back it off one turn. 4) Rotate the crank 450-degrees (one-and-a-quarter turns) and set the front cylinder on TDC of the compression stroke. 5) Remove the front CCT and replace it with your new MCCT. Again, tighten 'er finger tight, then back off a full turn. Make sure - especially on the rear tensioner - that you use some sort of loctite/sealant, because oil will leak out of that thing. If, when removing the front CCT you hear a "click," you can still install the MCCT, but you'll have to retime the front cylinder. Also, easy enough.
I wish someone would post an actual video of how to do this mod, instead of only posting videos of how to fix it when you eff it up. Booooooo!
And BTW, the RC51 doesn't have these God-awful things - they used gear-driven cams on those beasts.

not my procedure, posted by darjm , evidently cribbed from a " long dead uk vtr forum " . I still am vacillating about whether to put my manual CCT's made by a local (hmmmph...)
