I am skipping BRC1 and riding my Hawk this Saturday in BRC2 to get my license and opt out of the 4 day course. Who has done this and what am I to expect from the course and how did everyone else fair out riding their Hawk?

 

I've taught it on a Hawk many times. How's your clutch and throttle control

 

AS Long as yer idle is good you are set .. if you can comfortably idle the bike at full lock you are set... frame sliders should not be needed.. the instructors are really great riders who enjoy their jobs or at least present themselves as people who do.. make sure you have yer clutch set in a position that is comfy to get on and off of all day....

 

I took the ARC last year on mine.

 

I have ridden MSF BRC and Sport Bike course on my SH, no issues at all... well, the instructs get bent when I stop faster then some mythical standard, turn tighter, or perform the set course faster then "normal" and come to a complete stop, then regain forward momentum all under control... Hey not my fault the instructor book with specific "must be read instructions" do not state the ride must put feet down... at the stop.

 

Thanks. Yeah my bike idles around 1300-1400. Clutch is good. I am a little uncomfortable with tight figure 8s in practice. My only worry was riding my own bike in brc2 and passing some of the sharp turn exercises. Obviously you get to ride little 250's in brc1.

 

60' x 24' is the 8. about 3 parking spaces each way. Let it coast and use the clutch to "pull" it out, with a fair bit of counter weight.

We love it when riders excel beyond the mythical standard and encourage riders to NOT put feet down at the stop if possible. Seen some sic trials riders

 

Well then not all MSF instructors are created equal.. The ones that work for Cape Fox, US Army contractor are an uptight bunch... Nice enough in general, and more than reasonable with being helpful to those that struggle a bit... but seem to try and create standards where none exist.
And really get heated when you ask to see the cute little instructor flip chart book, which has the "instructions" in it for each exercise.

Likely I'm a terrible "student" for a mandatory and unneeded course... (unneeded by exception, a good thing over all for our Military riders)

 

A few years ago I took the 4 day course with my wife (so she could get licensed). I bunched everyone up on the slow speed part. I totally crawled about 30 yards! I had the biggest grin under my helmet.

Get out in an empty parking lot and practice a few tight slow 8's.

A friend of mine bought a VTR about 2 seasons ago and went straight to the BRC2 to get legal. He had no problems at all.

 

With work and weather I havn't had much of a chance. Heck i'm at work now, since its finally nice im going to get out this evening and practice a bit. Course is tomorrow at 8 am.

 

Well, how'd it go so far?

 

I passed and got my license, it was cake.
