Great 3 day ride in Mts east of San Diego
My wife and I finished a 3 day ride in the mountains east of San Diego today. Me on my Superhawk, my wife on her 2012 GSX-R750 (bought on 8/1. Now has 2,508 miles).
Day 1: Rode out to Julian from San Clemente, checked in at our lodging, then rode Sunrise Highway to Pine Valley. Did 4 laps on the Pine Valley (south) side, the best part of the ride.
Day 2: Rode Banner Grade (good road to get rid of, or minimize, chicken strips). Did 10 laps on Banner, mostly 2nd gear. Then rode to Mt Palomar. Did 2 laps on the South Grade Road (mostly 2nd gear as well), then came down East Grade Road. Rode to Sunrise Highway, with 4 laps on the Pine Valley side again. One of the best days of riding ever.
Day 3: Rode Banner Grade, 4 laps, then rode home to San Clemente.
Total miles: 472
Best part of 3 day ride: Almost no cars encountered on the mountain roads.

Nice. I used to live in Descanso years ago... Miss that area.
Fun roads out there for sure. Neat hitting the lookout by the observatory... Being in the evergreens then peering out and seeing the dunes at sea level is a trip at first glance. Hows the ride up thru Cuyamaca on to Julian?

Nice. Yeah that road is sometimes a ghostown. You should do Julian to descanso next time. That is a real good road for bikes. Then also Japatul rd all the way to friggin Diego is you want to. Busy though on weekends.
