Finally Rode it home- 98 superhawk

Just rode it home- so excited- glad it is cold out now- will look good sitting in the garage. nice comfy corbin seat- and it came with three wind screens, tank bag, and stock exhaust.

which means the Carbon Two brothers slip ons are for sale.
I am not sure what is a fair price for them- was thinking $500 ish does that make sense?

will post slip ons in classifieds shortly.

SO EXCITED! glad to be a SH member and Rider.

Craig

I agree with the Captain. And if it were me, those exhaust cans would be sorely missed after putting the stock silencers back in place.

One thing i did notice- which i thought was very bizarre-

driving home- if i hit the turn signal switch- it would take 5- 10 seconds before the turn signal would starting signalling. I am assuming relay issue- but any suggestions?

congrats. i have the same bike.. with high mount two brothers race cans... they are a bit laud. but the sound is intoxicating.. i can stand the buzz for sport riding, touring i wear ear plugs. i think when the bike is richened up to meet the pipes it pops on deceleration.. i am going to repack mine, soon

Awesome score Craig! Do you HAVE to pull the 2Bros? Man, you sure will regret it.

Iv'e had that problem for years, only on my left signal sitting on the bike though. The relay gets corrosion on it after a while and causes the delay. Just sand the corrosion off. Mine always does it when its cold and then comes on fine once the bike warms up

awesome- thanks- i honestly rode home last night- put everything away inside- then ran to warm up- it was pretty cold outside up here in philly.

so- will check some more things tonight-

also- I dont HAVE to take off exhaust- but that couple hundred sure would make things easier for me-

Don't sand anything... That's a really, really bad idea... You will get the problem right back just like t-dogg describes... You can keep doing that every other month or so until you have worn the parts through and never eliminate the problem completely...

Use an eraser to remove the worst, then some contact cleaner and work the switch a few times... Should clear the problem...

Then clean it meticulously and stick some vaseline on there and it won't come back...

+1 I had the same problem my first winter with the hawk... bought a new relay spontaneously (still have it sitting around just in case..) which did nothing to solve the problem. After some searching around here I found the thread which describes Tweety's remedy. It's been 2 years now and the problem has not duplicated itself; I opened it back up last summer and it's still clean and full of vaseline.

The rear signals have a single filament bulb and 2 wires. Yours are working normally.

You'll actually want to clean the contacts on the inside of the controls (on handlebar). I had good results using rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. Either allow it ample time to dry or use a hair dryer to expedite the process, then apply a healthy dose of Vaseline. Obviously contact cleaner (or similar type solvent) as mentioned above will yield the same results.

FYI: it's a lot of tiny parts and screws; I'd suggest laying it out on a shop towel to help you keep the parts from rolling across your garage floor and into a crack..

glad you found a cycle, now I will have someone to ride with. Two red 98's riding around the Philly area, that would be interesting.

I am looking forward to IT- it might be perceived. As a superhawk movement- can u imagine if there were three people riding around on red superhawks?

Congrats on the new bike. I recently bought a SH myself and just got it running. Still a few things to do to get on the road, but already I love this bike. Enjoy yours!
