Exhaust

I bought an 02 VTR 1000 a few months ago. Nice, clean, 14,000 miles and basically stock. Somewhere along the line it has had a bafflectomy. I'm thinking about going back and installing a stock set up (this is a hold over from my musclecar restoration days). Is the stock muffler, connector pipe and bracket the same for all model years? Also any thoughts on the gutted stock parts now installed vs the stock parts? I'm not into more noise just for the sake of more noise. Any performance advantage?
Thanks.

Yes they're all the same. Pretty much your personal opinion with regards to the sound-whatever you like it's your bike. Having said that I think they hit a home run with the way the Superhawk sounds. I doubt there's much performance to be gained just by doing a bafflectomy. But I've done a few and if you completely remove the outer baffle and put some holes in the next one in they sound just about as good as an aftermarket set.

Mine came the same way from the Harley dealership I bought it from. They also gave me a set of stock cans which may have something to do with state laws but I left the "altered" set on for the last 5 years. I love the sound.

Thanks

I appreciate the information and feedback in your replies. I have had many very fast Japanese liter+ bikes over the years. In 1997 I opted to buy a CBR1100xx Blackbird because it was the fasted thing available then. But, I really wanted the VTR 1000 back then...now the big hazagaza, latest "thing" is gone and I have my VTR. I'm a happy guy.

Welcome to the club, 91360. I finally got my VTR after wanting one for 14 years. Personally, I feel the stock pipe is too "polite" and easy for cagers to ignore, but installing and re-jetting for an aftermarket pipe is also a pain in the ***. I do prefer the sound of the big V-twin through a set of aftermarket cans.
