Reservoirs would make pretty good contact with the fairing and bend it so that they could make it past it. It was enough to prompt me to a take action. (One of the cracks I’m repairing with new paint is a direct result). I could see standing off the fairing at the mirror mounts to clear it. The tank contact would be no problem if you could move the bars around a little with the extra clearance.

So, curiosity got the better of me. I put one of the VFR bars back on the bike to accurately recall where the contact with the fairing happens. It’s not the reservoirs that contact it, it’s the switch packs. And it’s pretty significant. You can see how much steering rotation is remaining when the switch pack on the left makes contact with the fairing. And when at the same angle as stock bars, it’ll definitely contact the tank at full lock. You could rotate them a little and eliminate that but it starts being weird on the wrist. But it doesn’t change the contact at the fairing and stacking a couple of washers does’t change it enough. So, conclusion is that VFR bars are no good without fairing modifications.

Google "superhawk forum vfr bars". The first two hits, first from this forum, second from the vtr1000.org site, have a lot of info on vfr bars. Don't know if it's anything you don't already know or anything that may help, but maybe.

3" up & 2.5" back and no fairing contact but close at the tank, so I drilled, tapped & and threaded in an adjustable stop screw in the steering head bottom triple-tree stop on each side. Needed only .125" less rotation.

I'd like to know too, the VFR bars I have don't work with the stock fairing but I've no idea what year bike they are from. The reservoirs smack the fairing behind the mirrors. They would otherwise be brilliant.

102dals is an unknown quantity at this point
I have a few sets of VFR bars for different bikes...all raise the bars as described & will make switchgear contact your fairing (lightly). Not selling any right now.
86-87 VFR won't fit (different size fork). 90-93 VFR fit & have internal weights & different ends. 94-97 VFR fit & are solid aluminum (no internal weights) w/ different ends. 98-01 VFR fit & have internal weights which will work with some years VTR ends.
I'm currently running a 99 set w/ Throttlemeister ends. They hit the fairing at full lock, so I move the bars slowly when there. There are some small cracks forming, but I don't want to cut the fairing for clearance.
Seating position is noticeably higher & comfortable for me to ride several hours w/o probs. Best modification when combined with a Corbin or Sargent seat IMO.
