cooling fan issues???

I am new to the forum and just got my new super hawk, I'm trying to get as much power as I can on a budget. If you guys have any ideas or things to help I would appreciate it. I have noticed that the fans are not kicking on I don't think it is the fans (I could be wrong) but I don't know what it could be(temp. sensor ?). If you have any suggestions of what it could be, it would be a great help. thanks a lot!

the fan kicks on at 220degrees. Not much way to increase the power on a budget. Best thing you can do is go down one tooth on the front sprocket and up one or two on the rear. Dont worry about it affecting your top speed because the superhawk runs out of steam before it runs out of gear.

Ummm ok, well you are right about the fan but the rest of your post is kind of out there.

As for gearing I'm in the +2 on the rear but leave the counter sprocket at 16 crowd as I still like to be able to use 1st gear. As for running out of steam, well mine pulls pretty good all the way to 10.3k in 6th (or aprox 155 mph) so I don't really understand what you mean.

So as for what you can do "On a Budget" first is the bike in stock form right now? The carbs can be done for pretty cheap (around $15) and a few minors tweeks can be done but there is not a lot more power to be gained unless you want to spend some $$.

+1

Look through the KB for threads on mods / improvements. Upgrading the suspension will allow you to ride faster. Some descent fork springs and oil will go a long way.

Yep, tons of little things you can do free / cheap ranging from removing bafflers to lowering forks / rising rear and shedding weight. But take care of the things that go boom first like the CCT and Rec/Reg mods, then get good tires (if you need them).

Re:Cooling fan -- you could do a simple toggle switch so you can turn it on or hotwire it so it's always going, if you're worried.

I mean with stock gearing it is geared taller than what the bike has the horsepower to run top speed. sorry for the post being "out there" It was late and i had a quite a few beers. Im running a 15 tooth front sprocket and a stock rear sprocket, I like it that way. The bike has more punch and 1st gear is still useable.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. 15\41 does work pretty good but I prefer to run 16\43 (as the final ratio is close to the same) as you can still run the stock 102 link chain and the net affect is a approx. 5mm decrease in wheel base which also helps with turn in.

I just made the switch from 15/43 to 16/43 and while they both feel just about the same, first gear is noticibly longer and the powerband has shifted.

Like I always say, it is nice to be able to use 1st gear.

it has some stuff done to it, i don't know exactly what. it has slip on 2 bro exhaust and cosmetic stuff. What can I do to the carb for 15 bucks? also what is CCT and Rec/Reg mods? The fans are not kicking on even when it is above the temp, thats my main issue. thanks a lot

Cam chain tensioner and, um, rectifyer. The cam chain has an adjusting spring and misaligns every so often, blowing apart your engine. The reg burns out, leaving you stranded in the middle of nowhere. These are both mentioned in the knowledge base and in many posts, if you use the search option above.

I would just bypass the sensor and hotwire the fan if it's bothering you.

A bag of #4 washers to shim the needles, a pair of #48 pilot jets, and 2 screws to set the TPS. That is if the carbs are stock.

Your fans are not coming on? First check and make sure the fan turns freely by hand. if it does not, see that little rock in there... pull it out. i had one in my fan and it stoped it from spinnning then burt out my fuse.

Check the fuse and fan first. those are free.

+1000 on what 5150 Said. Same thing happened to me. Change fuse remove rock. Then paint a yellow blob on the fan so you can see if it is spinning as you ride. It's hard to hear fan kick on with ear plugs in. Now my pre ride check includes spinning the fan.
