All in the "Family"
All in the "Family"
I've been hanging around this forum for a bit, and thought maybe I'd ask how many of you owners have had the bike since new, or...have a familial lineage to it.
My Hawk's story.
My daughter's boy friend bought a new 1999 SuperHawk in Charleston, IL. It was the fast yellow one. Brought it home and I did a few minor upgrades for him, exhaust, brake lines, nothing fancy. He rode it for a while, he was a clutz, had a few off road excursions with it..one time while with me in Wisconsin, but I digress. He married my daughter, and it was determined that maybe he shouldn't ride a motorcycle, that was right after he was skate boarding and broke both arms.
I really wanted to buy it, as I had maintained it and..well, I liked it. My wife helped convince me that it could become a sore subject, plus, I had plenty of motorcycles. So, I told my best friend that it was for sale. A deal was quickly made.
I maintained it for him and we did track days, road trips, general fun together for years. Then, my buddy decided that he liked to dual sport ride better than sport ride and the SuperHawk languished for a couple of years in his garage. One day, after I had sold my '06 Ducati Sport Classic race bike, and was jonesing for a track day toy, I asked him if I could buy the Hawk from him. So I did. Have done a couple of track days on it, spent some time playing in the Hills of Texas, and...that's the rest of the story. At 66 y/o 6'4" two hundred and too many lbs, we're "fixin'" to go to TX and play some more.

Looks like you and the VTR meant to be together, all road lead to Rome sort of thing ;-)
My story is not as elaborate, but back in the late 90's when I was a motorcycle mechanic and before the IT splendid world, working on my clients VTR, I fell in love with the beast, it was like my baby, I took care of it like no other bike, later that client also became one of my best friends up to day, I did a stupid mistake by hesitating when he said he wants to sell it, which he did the very next day... Years after, around 2010 I ended buying one anyway and my love to the VTR was reestablished again happily ever after :-)))
