2 to 1 exhaust

Hey guys I got a question here.. Since my bike went down it bent the midpipe but they don't make my midpipe anymore so i was thinking instead of messing with the pipe i will just go to 1 exhaust.. anyone did this before? compression issues? lose power?

If it is done correctly you would see top end power gains and low mid range power and torque loss. Some would argue better for racing not as good for the street.

Is your midpipe severely bent, or is it somewhat bent and dented?

There is a thread somewhere on here about repeatedly freezing water in a pipe to un-dent/unbend it... Each time the water freezes, the expansion pushes the metal slightly closer to it's original shape.

It looks to be a slow process, but you might want to take a look at that option to see if it might be a possible fix.

Yeah, I did that with the a header pipe on my Cafe. Worked splendidly, though you really need a freezer large enough, like one that opens from the top. For me, it only took one freeze to restore original shape. I'd be careful about how many times you freeze, as you could distort the pipe in places you don't want.

Oh, and another tip: Use a towel or something to insulate the middle (where the bend/dent is) to ensure the ends freeze first and give you the freeze seals at the ends.

The mid-pipe is bent in and now rubbing my chain and swing arm.. Here's my idea tell me what you guys think. I wll cut the Y part of where the connection is made and turn it into just 1 pipe and under the tail i will do a ducati look alike with 2 exhaust.. would that be the same as running dual exhaust?

I'm no expert... but I would think that going from 2 down to 1 and then back to two will be a lot more restrictive.

I would really give the freezing thawing trick a try.

That is precisely how the stock system is configured....

I guess my idea is straight piping it for now and get a DJ jet kit to rejet.. see how it goes from there.. I will have it weld in the position that if i need my pipes back on they can cut it off and put it on

You may want to reconsider that "straight piping" idea.
You will find yourself in jetting hell.

2 into 1 is a pretty easy way to go, cut away the left side outlet and weld a cover over the hole, run a hole saw or die grinder down the right outlet to get rid of the intrusion and put your mid pipe and muffler on.

Here's a chitty pic looking into the right outlet.

Yeah, yeah... so I am a bit slow! :P
(Not sure why I was thinking it was more of an H configuration than and X.)

Already did that with a 32mm hole saw.. I got some power gain on that one but not a whole lot.. I got a stock exhaust in my garage I'm thinking about building me some sort of baffle so i will get at least some back pressure.. Make the stocker shorter and put it in front of the rear tire where the shock is at and then spit it into 2 pipe out the back...

Take a look at my profile. I did the ducati style I think you're talking about with no loss or gain in power, no hiccups or otherwise. Runs just like it did before.
