The SHawk is still supremely functional for a bike that is largely unchanged since it's inception. The larger tank only came on the UK versions. The riding position is actually fairly relaxed compared to some other bikes out there with sporting intentions.

What kind of price is the dealer asking? They can be had for fairly cheap if you look hard enough.

V-Twins rule. most comfortable and mid-range laden of the sporty v-twins.
SV: budget suspension and brakes. sub-par fuel injection.
FZ: notchy fuel injection. 4 cylinder vibration and lack of mid-range.
oh, and they're both UGLY!

7400 seems quite high for a 2 year old used bike even with just 3K... Dont know where your at location wise, but look around a bit if there are other dealers in a reasonble distance, even online, you should be able to find brand new Hawk for that price.

Yeah, $7400 seems like a non-US price...

you can still find new, old stock superhawks for 7400 as was mentioned. Riding the FZ and superhawk should settle it for you. THe FZ has a very comfortable riding position, would be better two up and very long distances and a has great engine if you like revving it. THe past 2-3 years a LOT of complaints about the fuel injection - very notchy just off throttle. After a V-twin all the inline fours (except those with huge excesses in HP) seem so gutless in the midrange that for most street riding its no comparison to me: but a simple ride should help you solve it. I like the SVs personally - they have similar short comings to ours in stock form I think, the 1000 isn't a great seller so might be some good deals. But not a lot of reasons to buy over the SH, and I still think the honda fit/finish is better.

i have two friends with fz1's. one older and one an 06. very comfy bike.
if i was going to do more touring that canyon riding i'd get the fz.

the FI issue is easily solved ( $300 ) with a PCIII and a custom map.

but.... after having many I4's i sure love the twin.

If you are going to spend the money on the FZ1 you might want to look at a used Aprilia Tuona. It is like a hotrodded Superhawk with motox style bars

SH would my choice if only those two were on the auction block.. But that is way too much for a used '05. As has been mentioned, you can get a new old stock one for that much or less. Prices are reflective of what buyers are willing to spend, in your area perhaps that is a reasonable price. If so, look at buying out of your area or state

I actually own both an sv650 and a 98 shawk and I personally like the styling on the naked sv's not so much the faired version also because of the riding position and prior yo buying my hwak I was looking for an sv 1000 , again the naked version. but theres somethin to be said about an r1 motor with an upright riding pos. imo

I ran into a dealer in Ohio that has an 04 leftover he wanted $7,000.00 for it. I have a brother who had an FZ1, nice bike but had a buzzzy feel in the bars that I didn't care for.

the SV 1000 is comparable to the hawk but the hawk does everything just a little bit better. every comparo I've seen with the both bikes has the hawk on top by the end. I've ridden them both myself, and FI aside, I would never trade my hawk for one of them. so I'd say if you can get a decent price, get the hawk. but between the fz1 and the hawk, these are 2 very different bikes for very different things. before I got the hawk I had a chance to get an fz1 but decided against it for a few reasons. the fz is HEAVY. no low end, crazy top end that I'll probably never use, lastly, the hawk is beautiful. the fz is... not.
