Let me know how you like these custom wheels cuz I've got a set ordered. They will actually be made from 30 yr old Fuchs (OEM Porsche Wheels) that are 16"x6". The fella cuts out the original center and welds it into new larger barrels to make a set of 9x17s (front) and 11x17s (rear). I plan to run monster sized rubber at 245/45r17s front and 315/35r17s rear

I'm currently waiting for my tuner to get a cable in from the UK then I should have most everything I'll need to fire this baby up, so with any luck she will be running soon. I'll post up more progress pics as soon as the next box of parts comes in!

Progress
The motor is off the stand and I'm ready to mate it to the gearbox as soon as I get the correct length studs. Then I can put the motor in the car. I still have some fabbing to do in order to mount the new electronic dash on the dashboard and I still need a fuel pressure sensor, but none of that wont stop me from getting the motor in the car

car is coming along great. how do those old porsches handle compared to modern day cars? i know my buddys cobalt ss turbo handles like its on rails from factory, i wouldnt mind building a track car of some sort in the next couple years, an old porsche would be a great toy

Oh, did I mention that 25 mph sweeper turns can really be done at 80? Also, if somebody wants to pull you from a light or on the interstate just ignor them cuz it wouldn't be fair...to them

Motor is in
Rolled the motor over last night with the starter w/o fire or fuel to test oil pressure and it's good to go, but didn't fire it up cuz I found a leak that I'll have to chase down first.

they can be made to lap a race track quickly, "handling" I find is a sometimes subjective term...if your goal is to have a track car I would avoid getting a 911 unless your budget has very few constraints.
if you want a german car to use as a track toy I recommend getting an older BMW, 90s cars (E36 chassis) can go the fastest for the least money with the way prices are right now.
BMWs will cost you more than other track cars, but not anywhere near as much as a 911.
my friend has a 1976 911 race car, and he spends exponentially more money on parts than I do for my 95 M3....
I have a 1977 320i as well, parts are cheaper for it still than newer cars but the performance isn't there even with an engine swap and different suspension.

After much debate I finally narrowed my search down to just two that were both great fits on a twinscroll 500hp EFI 930. The two were the Garrett GT3582R and the BorgWarner S300SX 83-75.
The BW won me over due to it's dependable journal brg with oil only cooling setup. The fact that it can make up to 310 ft-lb of torque at 2000 rpms and 5 psi of boost helped me with my decision as well as the potential to make 487 ft-lbs at 4000 rpm at 15 psi of boost...hope I can keep it between the ditches

I guess I'm just kinda old school and love the Ball Bearing turbos, if you didn't go with these please ignore, but if you did please explain further why? The Garrett GT35 is a Beast as well, I guess I don't know much about the S300SX as I didn't look into it too much due to not being Ball Bearing.
I'm about to put a GT3071R in my GTI more than likely but have to do different connecting rods before I go that route, so may hold off and go with a K04 and get to the 300 fwhp and stay there, the 3071 has the ability to put me over 450 at the wheels at 21~23psi...

I had my Saleen completely built, putting 550 rwhp out of the 2v with IRS, completely gone through, have quite a few laps on The Green Hell and Hockenhiem in it before I came back stateside, it was fun and very much a blast, but having it in Germany for 3 years then coming back here it just made me dispise the car as I built it for 160-170mph corners and blast, did great with it. Always won King of the hill comps, and beat every car on the track in Autocross till I was indexed, also put down 11.7's pretty conssitent on Slicks and 12.3's on street tires, needless to say was fun and could handle, had about 40k in the build though above the cost of the car LOL. Looking back wish I would have just bought a Porsche while I was in Germany
I actually love MK2 GTI's, built 3 of them, and this is my first step in a newer VAG car other than my 02TT 225 i built decently, but was forced to sell due to divorceI love this car so far, deadly consistent at the track, 14.8 in completely stock form with my 220lb *** in it, have a few parts coming in for it and back to the track, will stage 2 it at first, but maybe not might just go K04 right away;-)

Sweet, I am gettign out of the RWD overpowering hard to keep straight but fun to drive market.
I had my Saleen completely built, putting 550 rwhp out of the 2v with IRS, completely gone through, have quite a few laps on The Green Hell and Hockenhiem in it before I came back stateside, it was fun and very much a blast, but having it in Germany for 3 years then coming back here it just made me dispise the car as I built it for 160-170mph corners and blast, did great with it. I have 125,000 miles on the GTI now and did the build back at 60,000 and Reeves Motorsports did my flash. I change out the cam follower on the fuel pump every 30,000 miles and all is well so far!

My Saleen is back to stock now - seriously just put a stock tranny back in, stock solid rear axle, putting stock H-pipe on it, selling it as a 68k mile stock Saleen, but here is in it's Heyday - Recognize the track?

Did 4 laps in my 95 GT that I had matched springs and suspension on but with the stock 4 link in the back, it unloaded on me at around 115 in a corner and I did a few *** to the front turns and decided to get rid of that car
I ended up in the TT, which I had to sell shortly after due to the Divorce, once it ws gone though I ended up in the Saleen, and I spent a good 3-4 years building it piece by piece, but when it was on the Ring it was IRS, bushings, T-56 Viper Spec, Vortech with 11psi, MM coilovers, Subframe connectors, and quite a few other mods, but was around 460 rwhp at that time and passed Germany emmisions and TUV which was HARD. Anyway, did about 12 laps in the Saleen on the track, and I was able to hold 155ish through the corner that sent me in circles wtih the Solid rear axle and 4 link, could not belive the difference in Coilovers and IRS over Solid and matched springs...I typically refer to Nürburgring as the Green Hell as you can reference in one of my earlier post to you, because while in Germany it was spelled 2 different ways, in UK it's spelled one way, in the States it's spelled about 3 different ways, I just gave up and call it the Green Hell now
I still have one of my lap cards that has two passes on it from 2008 that I didn't get ot use before I shipped out back to the states

Of course, it's why i went to Germany, seemed like there was always something coming up, or i was deploying to the damn middle east, but I managed 86 laps on The Green Hell, 60 of them in my GTI's

Thnk you could appreciate this as well - i spent alot of time on tracks, and in my Stang killed ALOT of cars I should not have, but one that I was NEVER able to reel in at Multiple track days on multiple tracks was the following. This was 2007, alacantra, SMG, ETC, Car was so sick, he made my German so much better trying to find out so much about his car, this thing was SICK!!!!! The Car GEEK in me really came out in this car - you probably can tell by the smile, that's not my cheeser smile, that's my I'm about to splooge smile
