On the other hand I shouldn't be buying guns right now 'cause money is tight and I've got a large pile of guns already.
Realistically, if you need a defence carbine and don't want to spend $1300, a used Mini-14 for about 400-$500 or even a good Yugo SKS for $200 will serve you well.

Me too. Not because it's a good gun. It's pretty crude. A single shot .45 with a smooth bore barrel. But I love the philosophy behind it. Airdrop it to ordinary people so they can sneak up behind their oppressor, blow their brains out and take their Kar98 or MP40 and ammo. Works for me.
