Older generation Intel I series cpu swap. I3 to I7
I have a dell inspiron 3520 with sandy bridge arcitecture. It comes standard with a I3-2370M cpu. which just isnt cutting the mustard for my emulator and Ive seen it cap out abit during other activities probably mostly due to running windows. My other PC runs Ubuntu on an older chip and handles most things fine. but abywho back to it.
The chip I want is a I7-2620m. 2 real cores and 2 virtual cores with turbo boost avalable enabling it to hit 3.7 ghz which is much better than my 2.4ghz
Specs all match socket, voltage bus speed. The only thing is this laptop never came with an I7 it came with a I5 which isnt terribly faster. Both chips run a mere 35W.
There was a chip that looked better but I doubt this board can do 45W
I already put two 4gb ram cards into it but I plan on doing more. IE 16gb.
External GPU. as I already have the power supply.
As to why I would franken a laptop. 2 reasons. Money and again money. for less than 200 I can install a great gpu and the processor. Which should enable me to run emulation my wife and I would like to play gamecube.
