Tank leak

Well, we finally thawed out up here after a couple of weeks of well below zero weather.

Jumped on the bike this morning since I hadn't ridden for 3 weeks and went to get some gas. Fill up the tank, and notice gas is pouring out of the petcock/overflow tube at the bottom, but I'm not overflowing the tank.

Rode over to the dealer in a stream of gas (where new member Superhawk996 works) and they figured out the overflow part cracked in the tank and I'll need a new tank:sad:

I don't know how it would happen, unless water was able to actually have enough surface tension to stay in the overflow area in a capillary-effect way. Even then, where did the water come from? I suppose since the tank was near empty quite a bit of condensation could form if the air was most enough and dew point was hit....The cycling of -20 to 20F for a few weeks might of been enough to accrue enough water to do that.

So, our nicest week this year 47-50F forcasted all week, and I'm out a full tank of gas and motorcycle. Glad it was under warranty still!
