Im guessing its the switch but I am not 100% sure. It will work up until 30MPH in 1st and will register speed in 2nd and 3rd till 5K RMP and in 6th above 60MHP or 3500 RPM, but not in 5th. I tried from 0 MPH all the way to redline and it didnt register speed in 5th gear on a VERY long stretch of road. Any one have an idea why this is if its not the switch? Thanks! -Squid-

 

As with any electrical problem on a VTR the first step is to check all the grounds. Then check the plugs on the gauges. After those are "known" good you can go from there.

 

I didnt check the grounds but I did check the plugs for corrosion and pushed pins. There were none. I will check grounds after watch tomorrow. Thanks.

 

If it starts to work intermittently then it could be time to replace the speedo sensor. Check the loom where it plugs into nr the battery > nr the rear CCT.

 

That is what was wrong with mine. When I picked up a spare motor to rebuild I switched them and the problem was solved. look in the manual I remember something about cleaning or turning around or something as it is a magnetic pickup.
