someone molested my bike

I bought my VTR from a dealer so they have been working on it. I thought maybe a TPS because between 3 and 4 thousand RPM it was chugging and banging but turns out the baffles in the stock cans were cut out so I now have stock cans on it and it helps but not fixed yet. Now I find out the previous owner drilled some holes in the air box, I can't win. Does anyone think plugging it or replacing will fix. I'm going to tape it up and try it, will keep you posted

Does it have a stock air filter?

Modding the Airbox is usually a no no, on our bikes.

Almost for sure needs a jet kit with a K&N.. you could try going back to a stock filter till your mechanic has time.

Something I should mention is the idle won't stay still, it bounces at least 50 rpm. So lazn you think I should go ahead and get the jet kit installed? I was hoping the dealership would get it running right before I installed the new jets, I feel they are obligated

You can probably get by with taping the airbox for now. Keep an eye on ebay for an unmolested one for cheap though.

Well to get it running right, they would probably have to tape the airbox and go back to a stock filter. At least that is my understanding. I have yet to mess with my jetting, but if you search for "K&N air filter" in this forum you will find plenty of people who have been unable to get that to run right without jetting, and going back to a Stock filter fixed their issues.

and a much more productive way 2 search on ebay is: instead of goin 2 ebaymotors.com just go to ebay.com, then click on store, then typed superhawk and search, if lookin for a certain part you can type it in with superhawk, do not be to descriptive, then different stores will pop up, look at one at a time, they have diff options on stores to weed out unwanted items, i found brand new sharkskinz fairing for $140.00, stock fairings for $50, all typed of parts

I once saw an airbox that some genius modified.
The holes were drilled thru the lower half instead of the lid !
I was told it was an attempt to make the engine "breathe" more.
I said yea, more dirt.

VTR* -VTR250 -"VTR 250" works better as a search. Sometimes you pick up RC51 stuff though.

You bought a bike that doesn't run right?
For the future; be patient, there's plenty out there that run right.
Then again, I know what it's like to be at the dealership on a sunny day with a pile of money in my pocket.
Best of luck.

+1 on the tape...my guess is your jetting is fine and all you need is to put a stock filter in there and plug those holes!
