Small plate (oil restricter?) in head?

So I had my head off and I flipped it upside down trying to get the valve buckets out and when I looked on my bench there was a very sall round plate maybe 1/4"-3/8" in diameter with a small hole in the middle of it. I don't recall it being there before so I assume it came from the head. It almost fits perfectly in the little oil passage between the cam retainers. Is this where it goes or is it something that I may have just been on my bench before that I didn't realize? Anyone know what I'm talking about? I looked on the fische and in the manual and I can't see where it mentions anything about this.

Well I guess you on me about the things I post has given me a bit of an attitude toward you but my response is you is that you ask some pretty simple questions for someone who has "Seasoned Tech" on their profile, claims to have worked at a dealership and now has a mobile motorcycle repair business.... Just saying....

I could answer your question but then you would want me to post reference material before you would believe the answer and it isn't worth the time, sorry.

Oooh, that's harsh but my 1st question would have been "Why flip over the heads?". The manual even recommends using a magnet to remove the lifters & shims...

To quote Rodney King "Can't we all just get along". Frankly I always crack when someone is dumb enough to "challenge" Hawk or Tweety..can be very entertaining from the sidelines but I sure don't want to get in the middle of it...LMAO

From the posts I've seen of yours to this point I've thought you were well informed and obviously have a fair amount of specific knowledge of the SH. However with this post I see your attitude is more like the many 20 somethings and internet engineers I've seen posting on other forums who think they know everything and get all offended any time someone else questions their self proclaimed great knowledge.

As for my "simple questions" I was a tech in a couple different dealerships for a bit over 7 years. And while I do have a lot of experience, knowledge, and ability in repairing and working on motorcycles I don't have a lot of specific knowledge working on the SH. I've never had the head off one as I do now.

So don't let your specific experience on a single bike fool you into thinking your some god of knowledge of all motorcycles and motorcycle theories and that someone that doesn't have a lot specific experience on this specific motorcycle doesn't have as much, or likely more, knowledge on motorcycles in general than yourself.

FWIW I didn't disagree with you in your other thread that you seem to be butt hurt about. I agree with the theory, just not to the extent you make it out to be.

All you've done in your post here is proven you really don't know the answer, and that you act like a juvenile.

Skokie I didn't have my magnet with me, and didn't want to go down 3 flights of stairs to get it. So I flipped it over to see if they'd come out. Not to mention I'd would have flipped it over to inspect the valve guides, which I also found were broke, and to scrape the gasket surface. So it would have gotten flipped regardless.

If anyone else who doesn't act like a juvenile has any specific experience with this it would be very much appreciated.

GTS...Dude I doubt that Hawk is a 20 something but frankly don't really know. I also know he maybe hypersensitive to people he believes thinks he's talking without knowing. My overall observation after a few years on the site is that guy is right way more than he's wrong or if not wrong sticking to a position.

If you're looking for trouble tell Tweety he's wrong about k&N's..let me know when you do.

HRCA I never said he was wrong, and made a point not to. Just questioning the full validity of what he was saying about tire slippage, in which the more that's been revealed seems to back up that his percentages are off but his theory is on. I don't think he's 20 something either based off the few posts I've seen from him unless he got his bike when he was like 12. But he's acting like it the way he responded to this thread.

Working in the shops I've seen more than once when the K&N filters are worse than stock. No arguement there.

Funny it sounds like you are the one a bit butt hurt at the moment.

I made my statement about you needing everything proven to you because you even made the statements that the resources posted that their graphs must be wrong but you don't feel like buying the book to prove it. and your statement of " I'm not going to call BS on it but......" & " And maybe some hard data to back it up." to me sounds like you are calling me a liar not someone that would like to discuss a topic.

As for your claimed expertise..... Well sorry but it does seem odd to me that someone with your vast experience and access to a factory service manual should not have to ask such a simple question...... I mean it does give you step by step instruction on how to disassemble the head and put it back together along with all the parts that are in the assembly.

Yes I was giving you a little tweak and maybe a taste of your own attitude.

So yes you are the god of all things with 2 wheels.... I haven't been around at all and I guess by your statement this is also the only bike I have ever owned.

I just wish I knew as much about bikes as yourself....

Have yourself a nice day.

+1 on the BS. It is completely pointless, and does nothing to improve my level of respect for either one of you.

There is no orifice plate that goes in the camshaft oil supply port in the head.
