Question Recommendation on brand of pressure tester

since my SH is down for the count at the moment, i'm fixing the coolant leak on my other bike. turns out the hose-clamp to the front cyl was very loose and the hose wasn't fully seated. fixed that, but noticed some cracking (doesn't look more than superficial) on the hose at the edge of the tightened clamp.

if i had a pressure tester, i'd use it before putting everything back together.
i did a quick search of the forum and didn't find reference to any brands. the quickest and easiest for me to get would be a Sears Craftsman model. however, the balloon sealer sounds pretty weird and gives me pause. is it a decent one to get if you follow the instructions correctly?

thanks,

pressure test the coolant system? i thought the only way was to run the bike to operating temp to get pressure and open up the thermostat? does this tester just force the t-stat open?

that's a good question, the answer to which i have no clue. i guess the thermostat won't be open if the coolant is at room temperature.

i was hoping to check the integrity of the system before putting the airbox and tank on. but, it won't check a hell of a lot with the thermostat closed...
Plan B. put bike together and start 'er up and see if she leaks at temperature. don't buy cooling system pressure tester.

thanks,

You can pressure test a cold system. You are applying pressure at the radiator cap. Therefore the radiators will be pressurized up to the thermostat.

You are also applying pressure to the fluid inside the water pump, which feeds to the bypass circuit (where the coolant flows when the thermostat is in the "closed" position) thereby pressurizing the block and rest of the system to the other side of the thermostat or the entire system.
