questions about motorcycles

my name is jeremy and i work as an auto mechanic...now i have questions about the differences between motorcycles and cars....can someone please tell me how the charging sytem works....do these vtrs have PCM (ecus?).....sensors...what kind...more?...less? if anyone can give me a good overview i would greatle appreciate it....by the way very impressed with the 98 superhawk...for being an older bike its very impressive

The generating system is very similar. There is a 3 phase AC generator with a separate voltage regulator/rectifier. The VTR has electronic ignition and it's very basic, with only several inputs to the ECU - engine temp, crank position, and TPS. She's carbureted so she's pretty simple.

The '05 VTR was the last carbureted Honda sportbike. There is a certain character to having carbs, but my wife's SV650S sure runs flawlessly with EFI.

this service manual hase wireing diagrames at the bottom. i have the book version and its helped me alot.
