I disassembled the fuel valve from a '98 Superhawk I've recently acquired on trade, and I found a deteriorating plastic bushing that was peeling apart around the circumference. I didn't think much of it and assumed a new one would be included in a rebuild kit. Well, none of the kits I've seen have one, and neither do the rebuild videos I've seen on YouTube.

Any guidance here?

 

On second thought, I'm wondering if it may be a remnant of the missing fuel screen?

Both times I've removed an old filter from a tank, it came out in pieces.
