PAIR system vacuum feed question

As I don't have my spare set of carbs handy at the moment, I was wondering if anyone here knew where the vacuum feed for the PAIR system is located inside the carb (I know the outlet tube for it in on the outside of the carb, but where does it gets its vacuum from?). More precisely, is it on the engine side or airbox side of the butterfly? No speculation please, am looking for the real answer (may have an interesting project to share with you depending on the answer)

cheers

Page 1-26 in the service manual might offer some insight.

thanks, but I already checked that section, as well as all of section 5 (Fueling) and nowhere does it show anything conclusive......

I have spare carbs. I'll try some compressed air to see if the other end makes itself apparent.

Micky, did you figure out what you needed? I have a spare set of carbs that I can play with as well. Tomorrow, I will take some pictures and show where the feed is on the carbs.

Good. I am traveling and would not get to this for a couple more days.

First o all, thanks for the help gents

to answer the question: no, still waiting for an answer.....

my reasons for the query is the following (the cat will henceforth be out of the bag, lol): As mentioned in the HDJ needle jet thread, my spare set of carbs will be equipped with said FP needle jets as well as one of their 1.7 jet kits, which requires drilling and replacing the main air jet. This means the Flo-Commander will no longer fit, so I am looking art finding another means to be able to adjust/compensate the jetting for ambient temperature. Some years ago, I had used a device called a Tempa-Flow (by Holtzman Engineering) on my snowmobile as this device does just that. It works by applying a partial vacuum to the float bowl (amount applied varies according to temperature, the warmer it gets the more vacuum it applies, thereby leaning the mixture), so as to control fuel flow into the engine. I e-mailed Holtzman to see if this would work on a CV carb and was told it could so long as there is a vacuum feed located on the intake side of the butterfly (for some reason, a vacuum source located on the engine side would not work). So, my query was related to this, if the vacuum source in located on the airbox side of the 'fly, I may be giving the Tempa-Flow a try. If not, well, not much sense in going down that road.

So now you know.....

it's the line coming off the air cut-off valve (See green arrow in pics)

Sorry Micky, my Photobucket app is frozen on my iPad. I took a couple pictures to show that the line you're pointing at (green arrow) goes to the air cutt off valve and then down to a point after the butterfly. There is also a "T" in between those two on the carbs I have.

However, there is a boss on the side of the carb that I belive you could drill out and use. This is before the butterfly, but after the carb slide.

thanks. I was indeed looking at the vacuum source used for the air cut-off valve. Interesting idea for the boss, will have to have a look when I get my carbs back from Factory Pro (though given what I will have invested in them at that point, I want to be sure not to mess anything up).

yessir, thanks! I had looked up some carbs on eBay further to your earlier post and potted that little guy in there. I have a message out to the chap from Holtzman Eng. to see what he says. Will report back when I get an answer.

cheers
