No problem. In my experience, every rebuild job should result in a small pile of leftover parts. Now if you had intentionally left it out, who's to say what the limit to the consequences could be?

The dowel is there for alignment purposes, so if the head and the cylinder are aligned, I don't think you have a problem. It shouldn't make a difference in sealing.
But if you decide to redo it, you need a new gasket anyway.
Of course if you left it on top of the piston, that's another matter.

HAHA I'm often guilty whenever I take **** apart... As for your question I really couldn't say...have you already been running it like that? Hell didn't Edwards run his RC51 with one or two of the engine mounting bolts missing to improve traction?

I know with some other motors I tend to leave dowel pins out but they are always for alignment purposes while putting them together as long as its aligned and tight I wouldn't for see any issues

It's aligned and tight but who's to say it wont move as it goes through heat cycling. I have only run it for about thirty seconds, on the plus side it idles and starts great for not having been synced or anything. I guess I have til tuesday to decide if I'm gonna dive back in since I'll be out of town til then. Anyone know if I'll need a new gasket? It's been compressed but shouldn't have been heated much.
