Tail of the Dragon Sept 1 and 2 oops...OCT 1 and 2
It looks like I'll be going to Deal's Gap to ride Sat and Sun, Sept 1 and 2.
Just in case anybody already happens to have plans to be there, or maybe wants to plan to be there, we could meet and say hello, and maybe ride some too.
Brian
EDIT, uh, make that Oct 1 and 2

Ahh, the ear to ear smile roads of the south! I'm jealous, no I"m not, I'd much rather go to my wife's work party and hang out with a bunch of crazy nurses and pompus Dr's. If I was single the nureses would be fun but now I have to do the corner of the eye looks when they get drunk and naked.

There are no stupid questions, just stupid people. Sorry I forgot your new, hi I'm Mike and I'm a wise ***. It is a very famous road in the southeast, going from Tenn. into North Carolina. A.K.A. Us rte 129 it has 318 corners in 11 miles. That's right 318 in 11 miles. Keep your eyes on the road and don't get distracted!!!!!!!!

I think my son and I are going that way soon. I see where they are having a big get together on the weekend of 10/8 at Fontana.
We have been working on a bike trailer we picked up and have everything about set to haul two bikes for the trip and maybe camp or get a cabin.
My only problem is I can't keep up with him, he will just have to slow down a bit for the old man.

It's a blast I had a smile for at least a week!
Has he been there yet? Tell him NOT to go too fast at first there are alot of spots were you can go off the road and over the edge! The best times to go are in the middle of the week during working hours. There's alot less traffic, although you never know when the idiot trucker is going to try to go through.
The Dragon is very technical and you have to really concentrate or you mess up your line and it's screws you up for the next few turns. Oh yeah 1 very important thing, make sure you keep your head on the right side of the yellow line. I don't have to say why, there're no driveways or side streets so just stay on the right side of your lane most of the time.
There are also some other great roads in the same area, you can literally ride for days and not use the same route twice. There are some really nice comfortable 80mph sweeping roads as well, just a beautiful area and fall is coming so it's even prettier, oooo, ahh.

Advice well taken! I have driven the area before when returning from Gatlinburg, but not ridden it.
I have a friend that has ridden a good bit in the area and suggested some other roads while we are up that way. We will always use caution on unfamiliar routes and the website is excellent in pointing out first timer do's and don'ts.
We have a few decent routes around the Birmingham area that have some twisties we run for fun on the weekends.

Good advice given on the speed. The Dragon can be riden fast, but you sure have to know the road. I have ridden it many times and still get fooled sometimes.
Sighter, I see you too are in Bham. Small world.
My son and I plan to go late Oct. He's 13 and rides two-up with me on the CBR 1000F.
Maybe we'll see you then??

Here'e a few pics I posted in a thread a few months back.

The gap is not too far from where I live.
Just a few hours. Well worth the trip if anyone is on our side of the world. A must do event.
