Took the tank off for paint. Got everything back together and the only way I can get it to fire is pulling on the choke lever. It will stay running only momentarily. I have a battery charger on i because I keep draining the battery trying to start it. Could I just have to wait until the fuel pump kicks enough fuel back into the carb? Whats going on? It ran fine before I took apart for paint.

No fuel pump on this bike- it's all gravity fed. Search PVLIR- your hoses to the fuel tank are probably not hooked up correctly if you took it off. It's very common. The bottom nipple of the petcock should not have a hose coming from it, and the little hose should be attached to horizontal nipple on the back of the petcock

I have two "bigger" dia. hoses coming off of either side of the fuel shut off valve. There was alsoa "small" and a "large" dia. hose towards the rear of the tank. I got those on. And the only other thing I discoed was the electronic thingamabob under the center of the tank. Thats plugged in as well.

Electric thingamabob is your fuel level sender unit. There should be a very small hose that you connect to the back of the petcock- maybe it's fallen down into the motorcycle a bit. The vacuum from this hose activates the petcock diaphragm and allows fuel into your carbs. Check out the second pic down in this thread:

You are now part of the inner circle, now being able to reconnect the fuel plumbing AND being able to diagnose (at long distance) the starting troubles of others. Tuition Paid!

Do you live in Anchorage by chance?
And don't feel bad, I did the same thing not more than two weeks ago.
