new to my SH, question about headlights...

Today was the first night ride (2am work) I noticed my headlight and gauge lights lightly pulsed while riding, I could see them get dim them bright. Its VERY faint, but I noticed it. Is this normal?

I'd start by checking the Battery voltage.. sounds like a rectifier problem. Maybe the ground is not connected well, or some corrosion behind ground terminal... Maybe it's going bad.. they do that. I had one go, it took my battery with it.

Search for: R/R, or rectifier in the forums for more info..

I just bought the bike a few weeks ago, and it had a dead battery when I got it. I just put a new one in. Ill checkinto the R/R

+1 on checking the regulator/rectifier

Also, be VERY careful riding at the time of night. I once had a job that also had me go in at 2 a.m. Nearly everyone on the road is headed home from the bars and is drunk.

Mine, too, was putting out 18v at idle. Do not run the motor again as you can burn up some expensive electronics at that voltage. I was "lucky" and only lost the battery and a new silverstar headlight bulb.

Glad you're not in an urban environment but don't let your guard down out on the rural roads either. What ain't drunk is about to fall asleep at that time of night and let's not even talk about those damn deer which will be your biggest threat.
