new here

I just bought an 04 996. 7xxx miles got it for 1400. Love the bike but it's running a little rough. Bike is acting like it cutting out real bad. Fresh gas didn't help. I think it say for awhile. And ideas

Need more info. Right now I'd say to clean the carbs.

That's what I'm thinking. Bike usually starts fine and will run great until it warms up. Thin it's sputters backfires threw the airbox. Pulled the tank to check airfilter it's like new but there was gas in the airbox. I know it's not running right. Riding with a buddy who has an 05 sv650. He walked my bike...bad

Go to the knowledge section here and make sure to read up on the R/R (Regulator/Rectifier) and also CCT (Cam Chain Tensioner). Those two items are the VTR's Achilles heel. Also, when you clean the carbs, make sure to sync them afterwards. Look up "two bottle" method for the easiest and cheapest (less than $10) way to sync them.

Where are you located? A fellow member could take a look at your bike and possibly help you out.
