SuperHawk in New Zealand, new about here..
Hi All.
I just bought a 98 SuperHawk, which is strange as they were never sold here. It came into NZ in 06. We do have Firestorms which is the same but a little different. I got it at the start of the week cheap as it needed some work. Shes got 26000 miles on her and in good shape with Yoshi RS3s (and DB Killers, canr get them out).
So far I have fitted Gold Valves, .95 fork springs, pair removal, new throttle cables, -1 on the front and fixed various other problems.
Had my first ride on it today. I love it. Im coming from a Honda 919 which is a stonking bike but boring.
Couple of questions, when down changing im finding blipping the throttle is not getting the motor spinning. Im wondering if my jetting is out so a blip is not doing much. I have read a carb thread on here which says you need a special tool to adjust the pilot screws, is this correct?
No the way home I noticed it was handling a bit off. When home I lifted her up and it seems the head bearings are shot. New bearings on order.
It also has a custom under tail, does anybody know who made it?

Welcome aboard. You'll find the bikes are the same except for some north american specific polution crap. A SH is a Firestorm in all other markets.
You'll get used to riding it. Then want another 20hp lol

Welcome from across the ditch!
With the handling, has the bike got a rear shock shim?
They help by raising the rear which loads the front up and gives a more planted feel.
Another great mod is a lightened flywheel.
You can find it all on here, this is a great forum with a lot going on all the time

Well yes, I will try to do that tomorrow if time allows. Agreed easy stuff but will be pulling the carbs to fit new pilot screws so will do the TPS mod at the same time. I have carb balancing gear so easy stuff.

Did you check the ground at the radiator mount? Common problem. Some here have installed a manual thumb switch on the ground side so you can kick the fan on earlier. Itll still turn on automatically.

If I remember correctly the ground can installed over a rubber bushing on a radiator mount. Easy to spot check. I have installed a thumb switch and use it in traffic. Fan motors can get randomly stuck so make sure yours spins freely. Let us know!
